  2. Hello Carol, I have found the information provided on the Car Care Nut YouTube channel to be excellent. If you haven't seen it, Amhed is a Toyota Master Diagnostic Technician with many years of experience in a dealership, and now as an independent. I am aware of several videos where he talks about changing the transmission fluid. Basically, if it has under 100K you can do a drain and fill (not a flush). You are right about the "sludge"; if you haven't had a transmission service before 100K then the transmission may start slipping if you flush it and get rid of the sludge. I love his series on maintenance. Cindy

  5. 2020 Camry XLE purchased, Oct 2019 has had the battery drain issue 3 times. Dealership finally replaced the battery in December 2019 the third time I took it to them. 10 months after they replaced the battery Oct 2020, I go out to the car and experienced the same problem! Smart key System malfunctioning / Battery dead. I was livid, this was the 4th time this has happen. I called 1-800 Toyota spoke to a Case Manager and Supervisor while vehicle was being towed to the dealership. I was told by the Case Manager that they had just release an update to correct this issue. I told him to call my dealership and ensure that they had the update and would perform the procedure on my car. He did and once I got to the dealership they informed me they would replace the battery and complete the DCM Reset and Firmware Update EL1934 0.8 86741-#####. Toyota and the Dealership says this will fix the Battery drain issue. I am hoping this works. If you are experiencing the same problem, make sure that 1-800 Toyota documents your case and make sure your dealership is aware of the update.

  6. Depends on a few things. What is the condition of the engine and the mileage? Is this a new problem or a long term issue? Piston slap during cold start on a Camry is not common in my experience. Rod knocking at start up would be indicitave of a very worn engine but once again, is this a new problem or a long term issue. If new issue, I would change oil and use a Toyota or another high quality oil filter with the correct anti drain back valve and go from there.

  7. Hi, just hit 300k on Jan. 9, 2017 on my 2004 Toyota 4Runner SR5 4WD I bought new in March of 2004. I've changed the oil and filter every 5000-5500 miles and try to keep other things in order. Had an issue with 4WD electronic actuator at around 200k, but otherwise trouble-free. Runs great and I plan to keep driving it. 400k? Hope so!

  12. Greeting from So. Cal, Just picked up a well maintained White 2007 4cyl Base 2FWD Highlander with 163K miles from a family member. This is my first Toyota and purchased as an extra vehicle for light duty work and recreational excursions. Figured it is more practical than a small pick up. Not to sound snobbish, I own two 5 series BMW's and have for the last 3 decades but I have to say, this little SUV is a gem to drive and I really like the simplicity not to mention the ride is surprisingly comfortable. Looking to purchase a set of tires......an HT with a slightly more aggressive tread "yet" on the quiet side. Don't know if that's possible but if anyone has a set which fits my description, I'd love to hear your feedback. Installed Hi/Low LED's (Game Changer), Engine detailed, Tow hitch be installed this week after I complete a full detail on her.

  13. I just found out the same thing today. I was looking for a different topic and ran across that item. Really irritated me. I have never been able to make the remote start work thru my key fob but I have through the app on my phone. But I refuse to pay for monthly services that should be part of the car package as it is with other vehicles.

  14. My thought is that I think it affects access to feature on my radio. I can’t adjust the radio touchscreen settings because the radio says I’m “driving” when I have the key turned to ACC. So the radio may default to driving mode unless it receives a signal from VSS.

  20. Hi there, I am new here too, as of like just a few seconds ago. This is one of the most asked ?'s on all of the Tundra forums. At any rate, just wanted to respond here although I know it's been almost a month. "Best" oil is subjective. Personally, as long as you use oil that meets the recommended specs and change it frequently (every 5k IMO), it's hard to go wrong really. However, I recently did some research myself and decided to switch to 5w-30 (I always use synthetic or synthetic "blend" at least). The reason I switched is that others indicated that the engine seemed to be a bit more "quiet".. i.e. less pings / tings or whatever. So far it definitely sounds better to me. Disclaimer: This is all my opinion and in no way stated as fact, for the record. 🙊

  23. Just installed these license plate lights yesterday and they are bright! I am so happy with the way they look. I only had one problem I ran into which honestly is not a big deal at all. The light housings from factory bring the wiring along the side of the light. The new ones go directly into it from the back. Difficult to explain but if you see them side by side you will understand what I mean. This difference meant that I had to unclip part of the wiring from where it was mounted to on the trunk lid itself. Which was no big deal at all but that was the only thing I could possibly complain about. The fitment was great, they snapped right into place and no need for any extra gaskets or anything like that. Got them from AUXITO, fitment was perfect on my 2004 Toyota Sienna LE.

  24. I used to buy Toyota brand parts. I like Toyota, but three of the five handles on my Sienna have been replaced, and two of those twice each. Seems an engineering deficiency. This time I go with this aftermarket door handle, it's easy to install, only took me 10 minutes. Perfectly fit and works as well as the Toyota original. At 1/10th the cost of the Toy parts, I am pleased with this.

  27. Same thing for me, most I've been able to put in is about 11 gallons, and that was with DTE in the single digits. Seems like a fairly common problem, Toyota should acknowledge this like they have for the RAV4.

  29. Hi all. I'm not new to Toyota I was actually a retired Toyota Master tech, but not on cars or trucks, but Forklifts, my specialty was the electric trucks. My wife and I live in the California Sierra foothills so we have some pretty twisty roads up here. To be honest I'm totally blown away by this car, the handling is incredible, the fuel mileage is also outstanding. I once had a 66 Corvette and this Camry handles better than that old Corvette did. Just because I worked for Toyota dealers for many years isn't why I purchased the Camry, we actually looked at other cars, to me, nothing else came close for us. One issue I have is the insistence on 0-16 motor oil. My understanding has always been that oil viscosity is always based on the environment the vehicle is operating in. Example when we had customers with Gas/LP trucks that operated in freezers we recommended 0-20 oil, otherwise we recommended 10-30 due to the California heat in the summers. I will say it is always best to follow the manufacturers recommendations, but the oil requirement does confuse me. I was asked why I didn't go with a Hybrid since I was an electric forklift tech. Well first of all the technology is the same but much different. I do like the fact they put regenitive braking on the hybrid. For me I'm not totally sold on Litho batteries yet, but that is just me, and I know they have come a long ways in the development. I did purchase the extended warranty because even though it is pricy; major maintenance can get real expensive, so I felt is was a good insurance policy. Since I'm 73 years old this will most likely be my last car because I drive them until their antiques. To Toyota; Great job on the Camry, just love it. Hope there is no engineered failure in it. LOL

  32. Hi all, I have a 2018 Toyota RAV4 that has 30,000 miles on it and will be two years old in a few months. Factory warranty expires after 36,000 miles or 3 years, I believe, whichever comes first. Is buying an extended warranty from Toyota is worth it? Family have been driving Toyota cars for a long time because of their reliability. They don't think I need to buy an extended warranty. I initially chose to buy one from the dealership where we purchased our car. Can't remember which one it was, but it cost about $2,700 at the time. I chose to cancel it a week later and shop around later once I got around to it. The dealers always like to scare you about the computer systems dying for no reason. An independent mechanic my family uses says that computer systems should be the last thing to worry about. Mechanical issues are obviously much more common. His opinion was to put the money in the bank, let it accumulate interest for a major repair in the next few years, should one arise. Buddies from work tell me that it's easy to buy a warranty from a Honda dealership out-of-state at a much better price than most dealerships. That one was in Massachusetts, I think. Are there any Toyota dealerships well known on this forum for offering a good price on extended warranties? Possible to buy one from an out-of-state dealership? Thanks all in advance for your advice

  33. I have a 2020 Camry SE and my car's battery has gone dead twice! It was driving me nuts trying to figure out why!! Both times my car went dead has been on a Monday morning. I think I have figured out the problem. If I leave the car UNLOCKED all weekend and not drive it, then on Monday morning when I get in it its dead. So something is draining the battery. Here is what I think it is...if I leave the car unlocked the display behind the steering wheel still shows the time and mileage but if I lock the car, the display goes off. So...I think the display being left on when the car is unlocked is what was draining the battery dead over the weekend. I lock my car every time I get out now and its has been two months since my battery has gone dead.

  34. The1992 Toyota Celica GT-Four is a right-hand drive model completed in dark over dark that was imported to the US in May of 2018 and shows 56k miles. The vehicle is outfitted with a turbocharged and intercooled 2.0L inline-four mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and sending capacity to each of the four wheels through a full-time AWD framework. Adjustments incorporate a secondary selling exhaust, springs, guiding wheel, sound system, and back-up camera. A liquid change, sparkle plug substitution, and specifying were acted in March 2018. This ST185 is offered by the selling seller with a perfect Washington State title. Dark paint is appeared close in various point by point display photographs beneath, which likewise delineate imperfections including chips over the nose and lower front valance. Alterations incorporate a couple of helper driving lights in advance and a curiously large suppressor. Plant 15″ wheels are shod in a lot of 205/60 jdm Toyo Garit G30 tires. A secondary selling tint has been applied to the side and back glass. The lodge is done in dark with shading checked fabric seats and a secondary selling controlling wheel. A Pioneer CD player and electronic lap clock have been introduced instead of the stock sound system. Roughly 90k kilometers (~56k miles) are appeared on the odometer. The display contains various photographs specifying state of the seats, entryway boards, main event, and covering. The turbocharged and intercooled 2.0L 3S-GTE inline-four was evaluated at 222 strength and 224 lb-ft of torque for the Japanese market. Force is sent to each of the four wheels through a constrained slip thick focus differential. A drivetrain liquid and sparkle plug change was finished in June 2018 for each the merchant. Reseller's exchange springs were purportedly included by a past proprietor. The vender has given a few lift shots to show the general state of the body, underbody, and suspension segments.

  37. I noticed the rattling sound coming from the back as well, and it drove me notes. I initially thought it was coming from inside the lift gate. Turns out the majority of the rattle was coming from the license plate, and the license plate border surround that’s placed overtop of the license plate, both of which are mounted to the vehicle with the same screws. Additionally, I noticed they were only mounted via the top two screws, and that there were no predrilled holes for the bottom two screws. I sat back there, with the music cranked up, and that license plate was rattling around like crazy. After securing it with the two bottom screws, and using rubber washers with the screws (also placed rubber washers on top two screws), I eliminated the vast majority of the rattle. Another option you can do, in addition to securing the license plate better, is adding Dynomat to your vehicles doors and lift gate. It makes a WORLD of a difference! Blocks out a ton of outside road noise, etc., but more importantly insulates the doors and lift gate, giving you much crisper sound. Cost is reasonable depending on how much of the vehicle you want Dynomatted, but worth every penny!

  38. Laureen, It was a good call to turn back as a precautionary measure. It could be a number of things. Did you recently fill up with gas? It may the fuel. Or it may be coolant seeping in the head thus mixing with fuel. If this were the case, the RAV4 would be running very rough. When you checked the oil, did you notice any frothing or bubbling on the dip stick? At this time, is it running smoothly or roughly at idle? Is there any moisture coming out of the tailpipe when it is running now? It may have been none of the above and it could have been something as off the wall as water in your tailpipe and or muffler from driving in deep water from heavy rain.

  39. Hey everyone, I just randomly plugged into google a search for Toyota Tacoma club, and found this. So I am excited to be here and talk with all of you. I have a 2007 Tacoma, Double Cab, 4x4 with the 6 speed. Love this little truck. Currently I have HD 17 inch rims with 32" BFG ATs on it. A Revtek 3 inch lift allows me to have those meats on there. I do have a K&N air filter in it but a K&N cold air is on the way. Lots of big plans for my truck seeing how it has to last me a while. Any comments or tips or suggestions are certainly welcome. Mono

  43. Should be a case of just removing the blanking plates and installing the new fog lights and surrounds. Should be quite a straight forward job. With regards to the wiring, were you planning on trying to use the original switched? If not, an after market switch should be quite easy to install somewhere discreet?

  46. When my 2004 Corolla starts the engine, revs to about 2000 RPMs. If still cold, the idle drops to about 1800 and stays there until the engine starts to warm. IF the engine is warm the idle drops to a normal 700 RPM. I have been told by the dealer that this is the correct operation for the engine. Emails, which I have received from the Toyota web site, say the it is "not unusual for Corollas to run with high cold RPM". This statement implies is that not all Corollas idle at high RPMs. My problem is that, just at start up, there is no oil pressure and the oil has drained from the engine. It takes a few seconds for the engine oil to circulate. I think that running at 1800 to 2000 RPMs is racing the engine and that the engine is being damaged. In the first few seconds of running, the bearings are running without an adequate supply of oil or oil pressure. Is anyone else having this experience? What do other owners on this forum see as cold idle RPMs? Thanks

  47. Or...you could just install a real MP3 player :D I just put a Clarion ADB340MP Double Din(Fits the big hole in the dash) in my 2001 Highlander. Wiring wise it was the easiest stereo I've ever installed. It was also very easy to remove the dash and pull the old unit. The problems I encountered were.... the new unit had a half inch or so of space on each side. I remedied this by taking a shiny black light switch wall plate and cut the sides off and slid em under the edge of the stereo face plates on each side. It actually looks very good.. The other problem is that I made a mark on the edge of the dash. The dumb dash is white underneath, so I left a little tiny white line after it all went back together. I touched it up with a black permamarker. It actually touched up pretty well...so all looks well and the stereo sounds GREAT! B)
