  1. If they work sometimes, but not other times, it sounds like a wire somewhere is almost shorting out...
  2. True...but those odd people do pop up that say "what if I drove my car into a lake? I wouldn't be able to get out if I had power locks and/or windows because they would short out!". Don't laugh...I've heard it more than once, and they were serious!!
  3. Welcome! Got any pics of the Prius? I've never seen one with aftermarket rims!
  4. Why don't you call the Toyota corporate hotline? 1-800-331-4331. Open a case with them...the dealership should take it pretty seriously. Did you like your salesperson? Or was everyone a pain? Seriously, you'd be crazy to take your car 200 miles away to service it just because you're mad at the sales department at the dealership. The service department is a separate entity, and the technicians generally don't care whose car they're servicing.
  5. Retail value? Yes, that's pretty close to right. It really depends on equipment, condition, color, Carfax history, etc. That's assuming you're buying it from a dealer who has done an inspection and reconditioning on it.
  6. If you don't have the money to do it properly, wait until you save a few bucks and do it right. If you don't have the proper equipment installed, you can end up costing more in repairs, especially when you try to add any sort of forced induction. As for the springs: you'll need to do more than just springs or you'll end up with a bouncing effect...do the drop properly with full suspension, and you'll maintain your ride quality, handling, and not have that problem.
  7. Definitely not the timing belt...although yes, you are due for one if it has never been changed. Could you clarify a bit what you mean by "popping"?
  8. The only reason you would want to buy this car is if you are going to drive it into the ground. A salvage title means the vehicle is automatically worth 1/2 price, and this would be true for your resale value in a few years also. If you decide to get a new car in the future, no dealer will want to take it as a trade-in, and those that agree to take it won't give you much for it. A salvage title also stops some banks from lending on the vehicle, some extended warranties to be voided, and you may even have issues with your factory warranty. Unless you're getting that car for just a few thousand bucks, don't waste your time and money.
  9. oh yeah...definitely a Best Buy problem.
  10. If it's OEM, go for it...that's a pretty good price. 98.6% is excellent (there's always someone out there that's never satisfied).
  11. Could be the transmission slipping a bit... :(
  12. It probably was a Toyota dealership...many Toyota and Lexus dealers will sell parts online. It may not be a Toyota part; it may be aftermarket.

I'm not familiar with the Japanese version of the nav system, but have you looked under the menu/info (if you can figure out which they are) for a language setting? The US version, depending on the year, will have options for English, French, or Spanish.
  14. Sounds like something is starting to short out somewhere.
  15. Is there any sort of new odor in the car? If the heater core is going, you might smell antifreeze.
  16. Wow...this post really took off since last I looked at it! I still stick by my factory filters...
  17. I've always been a big proponent of using the Toyota factory parts and recommended fluids whenever possible (it's a pretty safe assumption the manufacturer knows what they're talking about), and from what I understand, the Toyota filter is higher quality than many of the aftermarket products. If the Toyota filter is recommended, designed specifically for your car, and only costs $10 more a couple times a year, why would you risk using some cheap aftermarket filter? Especially on something that important to your engine's health? If you take care of your Toyota, it'll last forever, so make sure you don't do anything potentially problematic.
  18. That is an incredibly cheap price for the warranty. I hope you're only considering the ones through Toyota Financial...the rest are a waste of money because they won't pay a lot of claims. Think about your decision this way: if the a/c goes out, there's your $1200-1300 easy. Or if your window motors went out, those are several hundred a piece. Worst case, a couple things break, and you break even on your warranty cost.
  19. Unfortunately, I don't think it qualifies as a limited edition car. Toyota made thousands of those. I had one...it was a great car (got lots of tickets in it though, darn it!!).
  20. Welcome to TOC USA! Nice car...very solid. What all have you done to it so far (other than the obvious!)?
