  1. Same guy? I looked at the Toyota site he posted...it appears to be a legitimate site. I thought it was just someone who worked for that site. There was another guy sending spam, but he got kicked out by Steve.

    how old

Mine was a 1998 V6 LE with 175k when I sold it 3 years ago...it was in great shape, so I'm sure it's still on the road.
  3. There's plastic welding, but by the time you have that done and repaint the bumper, you'll probably be looking at $400-500.
  4. I don't know if you're interested in this or not, but I just remembered I have an HID kit for the 1997-1998 type Camrys. It used to be in my old Camry, but I pulled it out when I sold the car. I think it's a Katz? kit. If you're interested, I can go try to find it in the garage.

    Wet Carpets

Wow...that's no fun. Where is the water coming from? Rain, carwashes, etc.? It's water, right, not anything else?

    Camry Hybrid

Really? I love the factory navigation system in my GS. Didn't like the fact that I couldn't use it while driving, but I hacked the system in my 2007 GS350, and put a switch in the 2008 so I could use it while driving, and it's really pretty nice. Bigger screen, more points of interest, more ways to look stuff up, bluetooth w/phonebook, dayplanner, service reminder screen, touch screen for audio controls & climate, faster than Garmin & others, plus, I get the backup camera when I get navigation. That, and I'll get every penny of that navigation cost back in resale because people are starting to really want navigation. So what if I have to get a new map disc every couple years? Also, I've some experience with aftermarket GPS systems (we've had 10 or 12 of them for the other cars), and find that most of the ones with the nicer features are glitchy and unreliable.
  7. Welcome to TOC USA. Thanks for posting. Is that advice or is that advertisment for your business?
  8. Couldn't find a nice 1999 Camry or Corolla anywhere? I'd have to say the Volvo might be a slightly better choice for power train longevity. However, neither choice is particularly great quality-wise, so a lot of that will depend on how well the vehicles have been maintained in the last 10 years, if they've ever been in a major wreck, and how many miles are currently on them.
  9. You're welcome...it happens like that pretty frequently, actually.
  10. If it's a SmartKey car, just 2 SmartKeys only.
  11. Ouch! Sorry to hear that...glad she was OK.
  12. It's not a traditional 4WD system, it's an AWD system...it automatically sends power to whichever wheel needs it. There's never a button to switch into AWD from FWD. It can handle snow, and a small degree of off road usage. The Highlander is built on a car platform (very similar to Camry, Sienna, Lexus RX), so it is not built like a heavy duty 4x4 truck. If you want to go off road, you need a 4Runner or similar. As for the snow button: basically, it makes it so you have less power and torque which is helpful in trying to get out of snow and ice. It has nothing to do with the AWD system.
  13. The old 3.0 V6 had the occasional sludging issue, but usually only when the car hasn't been maintained. Haven't heard anything bad about the 3.3.

    Oil chage

One more note on the "sludge" engines: typically, an engine that is properly maintained, regardless of oil choice, will not sludge up. The vast majority of the cars with issues were at best sporadically maintained. There were a few cases of sludging on well maintained cars, but this was very rare.
  15. It could easily be the fuel filter...eventually, you have to replace those.
  16. How long have you owned this car? Are you familiar with all of the controls? It couldn't be anything as simple as pulling the stalk with the lights on it towards you and out of brights mode, could it?
  17. Yes, but in this town, it's Honda Civics.
  18. Try these guys: http://www.prestigioussociety.com/ I believe the software options no longer work for 2008 and newer, but a hardware solution should be effective.
  19. There's no way to do it on any of the model years without some sort of re-wiring. As far as I know, the DVD playing on the front screen is somehow linked to the parking brake being on.
  20. Just follow the factory maintenance guide...and read the fine print about climate because your best schedule will vary depending on how harsh your weather is. Go with whichever comes first for mileage or time for the maintenance intervals.
  21. Well, the Toyota dealer is certainly the easiest. You might save a couple bucks if you search online, but it might not be worth the hassle. You shouldn't have to change that very often...it depends on your climate though. Here in the dusty Nevada desert, mine gets changed about once a year, but that could vary slightly in your area.
  22. Yes, the cable could be a simple fix. If it's an art car, can we see pics?
  23. Did you lube the lock? Also, if it's not a power window, it'll be much easier to take apart the entire door and reassemble than if you had power windows. Just try not to take the window off the track because that can be a pain. Taking off the door skin is not a big deal.
