  1. It never fails...your car can have a major problem, and when you pull into the dealership, it magically disappears.
  2. No...the Echo is a great car. It's very basic, but very reliable, and great on gas. I believe it has a pretty good safety rating too.
  3. Yes, there's always that. I was assuming US residency. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe Toyota does not export US built Corollas.

Welcome to TOC USA! Congrats on your new car! Never had any trouble with it before. Did you get your VIN in there correctly?
  5. Belts, plugs, etc., yes...water pump, not necessarily so. It's the biggest maintenance required, and it is important. My old Camry had two of these services done, and it was still running like a 50k miles car at 175k when I sold it. It may be expensive, but it's better than buying a new car or new engine...
  6. Well, that's not exactly right... If it's a Japanese built Corolla made for the US market, it's exactly the same as the US made Corolla, with the possible exception of a few bits of optional equipment that are only produced at one factory or the other. The Corollas are made in several locations worldwide, so it's more about the intended destination that anything else.
  7. It might mean you didn't change the right O2 sensor.
  8. Got this instead: 1 for the price of two... SMZ: Steve Millen modified a hundred or so of the 300ZX's, added an extra 100+ hp plus some other goodies, numbered & signed them, and sold new at a few Nissan dealers. More info: http://www.automoblog.net/2006/06/22/ebay-...llen-300zx-smz/
  9. Any newer Toyota/Lexus product with a timing belt recommends changing it every 90k...you're a little overdue. If you have a dealer do it, it's several hundred bucks. If you do it yourself, the part is cheap, maybe $50-$75, but the job itself is a pain.
  10. It shouldn't be a factor. They're pretty much the same quality-wise. The 1996 might be a better choice just because it's slightly newer.
  11. Both turbo, manual trans. The Nissan was an SMZ...only about 100 made, 415hp brand new. It was actually faster than the Supra.
  12. I do miss my Supras....here's the last one (plus an SMZ):
  13. Welcome! I'm a past Supra owner (1986 turbo, and 2 MKIVs). It's nice to meet another Supra person!
  14. Welcome! Thanks for joining TOC USA! Congrats on your new Highlander!
  15. Maybe the original owner never had the remotes...or didn't know how to use them. Anyway, I know there's a simple way you can program them on your own, but I've completely forgotten how to do it. You should probably do a little google-ing and find out how to do it. If the dealer is charging you about $50 for programming, it's probably only a half hour job...that's about the going rate for a half hour.
  16. Hmmm...good question. It's been a couple years since I looked at the kit. I think it's just low beams, but not sure. I'm in the middle of moving right now, so I'm sure I'll run across the box, and I'll let you all know.
  17. Here's the options your car had from the factory: 50 STATE EMISSIONS ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM DRVR & FRT PASS SIDE AIRBAGS FRONT & REAR CURTAIN AIRBAGS PACKAGE #2: KEYLESS ENTRY,POWER DRIVER SEAT,JBL PREM ETR/CASS/CD W/8 SPKRS IN 6 LOCATIONS CARPET/CARGO MAT SET See if you can get in touch with the previous owner...maybe she has an extra remote lying around somewhere.
  18. Did you check under the driver's seat? Some of those older Camrys had a box there. If you give me the VIN, I can tell you if it came with factory-installed keyless or not.
  19. Really? I didn't realize they were that good. I've even seen some IS300s lately, but usually it's just a lot of the 240s.
  20. Sweet! I knew I'd seen them out there! They keep up with the Nissan 240SX's!
  21. Cool old car! Aren't some of those old Corollas supposed to be really great for drifting?
  22. Welcome! Amazing technology, isn't it? Is this your first Toyota?

It definitely adds value...not only book value, but marketability. Did you try to call the corporate office yet? If you have maintained a continuous good service history with a Toyota dealership, they may be willing to goodwill something, especially if you ask nicely.
