  1. Thanks for joining! Nice site!

  2. Gar mileage has never been a major concern for me...I drive less than 10k per year so it's not that expensive. I would, however, like that 10k to pass in the most enjoyable possible way, so I'm barely averaging 20mpg combined in my GS, courtesy of a heavy foot... I wouldn't mind having one of those old SC's that people are putting Supra motors into. I had one that I was thinking about doing the engine swap with, but didn't get around to it before I sold the car. I pretty much love all Toyota 6 cylinder engines...never been a major fan of the four cylinders, just not enough torque for me. The IS project sounds pretty sweet though. I've considered the new Lotus with the Toyota motor, but haven't had a chance to test drive one yet. That should be an ideal combo of power and weight. On that subject...have you seen the Tesla? There's a great gas mileage hotrod!
  3. ?? All I could see of this post was code, and very little content? Is it just my heavily restricted work computer, or is there something actually there?
  4. I wonder if there would be a way to fit my personal favorite into a Paseo: 2JZGTE!!@ :P
  5. Haven't seen the Vibe yet, but I imagine it still has that over-done Pontiac interior...give me a nice clean Toyota look anytime over that plasticky GM junk...

    Diff service?

I checked the official maintenance schedule for your car, and it's recommended to change differential oil every 15k under harsh conditions (towing, heavy use), but only recommends inspections otherwise. You might want to do it every couple years/30k to be safe on your car. Here's the complete schedule for the 1998 Camry: http://smg.toyotapartsandservice.com/guide...8&int_id=44 When you get to 120k, start over at 5k...
  7. I saw one on the road yesterday finally...they do look pretty good!!
  8. Welcome! Sounds like a great history already with Toyota. Those little Tercels ran (still do run in many cases) forever...great car! We look forward to your contributions to our site! Incidentally, the GS is worth every penny...I'm on my third one, and they are fabulous cars. Here's your GS/ES/Avalon differences: GS: elegant, sporty, absolutely silent interior, more of a personal driver's car, sleek exterior/interior, usually RWD, sometimes AWD. There's a lot less of these around than the other two, so more exclusivity. ES: smooth, quiet, comfortable, gorgeous interior, softer ride, beautiful woods/chrome/leathers, FWD. Both the ES and the Avalon are larger, especially in the back seat, than the GS. Avalon: also smooth, quiet, and comfortable, FWD, even softer ride than the ES, but lacking in fit, finish, amenities, and upscale materials compared to the Lexus. A big comfortable car, and a great buy...but not quite a Lexus. You also have one less year on the warranty than the Lexus and usually no service loaners at the dealership unless you have an undriveable/unsafe vehicle.
  9. Complete maintenance schedule: http://smg.toyotapartsandservice.com/index.php Looks like it's due every 30k.
  10. I think it's a belt in that one...probably due at either 60,000 or 90,000 miles.
  11. Could be just an "alignment"...maybe it's not adjusted properly somewhere...you could take the door panel off and make sure everything is lined up properly and connecting. There's only about a million adjustments you could make in there, unfortunately. I think the motor's probably fine if it's making noise; it's just not able to apply power to move the glass.
  12. There won't be any major incentives on a 2009, and there's only about two thousand bucks in markup in the car, so I wouldn't worry about a couple hundred dollars here or there. If all the dealers are at about the same discounted price, you're probably at the end of the road for discounts so it's not going to be worth your time to keep looking for a better price just save a minimal amount of money. Just find a dealer that you like that has the car you like, and get it over with. Keep in mind that if you buy the car at the dealer you're planning to service the car with, you'll probably have better service in the long run, and you may be eligible for service discounts with that dealer because of your purchase. Also if you allow them to make a at least a little bit of money, they'll be more inclined to help you if you have an issue at some point in the future...
  13. On the radio problem: it's definitely not a theft prevention issue...you wouldn't be able to tune the stations if that were the case. Could be an amp issue; some of those radios didn't work properly without a small external factory amp.
  14. No, the turbo won't help for fuel efficiency. If you add the turbo and remove the cats, it might even out to where you were before the turbo, but it won't improve anything but horsepower. Yes, if you add a turbo, you might as well run a straight pipe and add a decent intake...that would be helpful for optimal power. Won't pass emissions, and you'll kick all kinds of codes from the o2 sensor with the catalytic converter gone, but it sure would be fun!! Check with TRD...they might have a Toyota sanctioned supercharger or turbo charger for your truck. They have them for some of the Toyota & Scion models.
  15. Sorry...wasn't paying close enough attention. I was talking about the ones on the doors...
  16. ouch...looks like a major project! Good luck!
  17. Must be just an Australia issue...I know every Toyota & Lexus I've had since my first 1986 Supra have had a dimmer switch for instruments.
  18. Probably need new rubber seals...I think they're $80-100 each and go all the way around the window.
  19. Have fun shopping...post before/after pics when you get the new rims!
