Just wanted to let people know that there is a Technical Service Bulletin for Matrix owners of the 2003/2004 models with power windows.
A bolt is loose that can have the window rattle/pop or in a worst case - even break.
Please see your local toyota dealership for this free TSB correction.

Welcome!!!
I also signed on TOC Austrailia, I might as well include the UK.
A bit off topic, but I love the show Top Gear.
I would love to meet the Stig.

K&N has made available a CAI for the 2009 Matrix.
It is the same as the CAI for the Scion Xb (2nd generation).
http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=69-8613TS
It's for the XRS (2.4L) model.
The 1.8L is still stuck with a drop in replacement filter for the 2009s so far.

How much money did that guy steal from the bank?

lol, i think im done buying Toyota's
aww, don't say that.
I brought a little cheerleader for you:

Shhh! Don't tell the anti-import guys about that meaning. They will take the wrong meaning from it and use it to verify their beliefs that we are all "Ricers", lol!
All the lame Honduh drivers took care of that distinction.... ;)

?? All I could see of this post was code, and very little content? Is it just my heavily restricted work computer, or is there something actually there?
same here
something about transparent Georgia...

sorry to hear all the hassle you are going through...
options"
1) get an auto tranny for the car...
2) swap the engine for one mated to a 5-speed
or
3) buy a Yaris....
j/k
trying to inject some humor on this depressing situation....

I see.
Perhaps the motor threw a connecting rod due to being previously boosted aka supercharged.
It seems that a few Matrix owners who have had their car supercharged are having issues with the rods whether they are currently boosted or in the past.
Interesting since TRD has had the S/C available for the Matrix since it's inception.
-
Yes I have seen them quite frequently here.
In fact one of people who work right next door to me has the Matrix XRS with 18 inch rims.
Looks very nice....
I have even seen the new Pontiac Vibe.
I have to admit, other than the XRS - the Vibe looks better than the Matrix.

Thanks for your suggestions. Maybe I'll try and change the cold air intake. Everything else seems to be in order in my car, I have it serviced regularly. I think the main problem is I drive too much uphill and too slow on winding roads. Do you think I'd save gas if I had a 5 or a 6-speed tranny? Gas price is a problem these days, I live in Europe and now the average price over here is 8.60 dollars or more per gallon... that's one of the reasons only luxury cars have auto trannies here, very different from America. Have you ever experienced the hunting problem going downhill on your cars?
yes I have.
I adjust my driving to avoid those situations, but sometimes you just have to live it.

Welcome to TOCUSA!!!!
Hope you post pics soon of your Corolla.
Enjoy your stay here. ;)

no problem at all....
Curious as to what happend to your original motor on the 2004 Matrix?
-
Hi. I'm the owner of a 2006 110 hp 4-speed AT Corolla (European) with an A246E tranny. I've got only 11000 miles on it and no matter how I try I'm not able to do more than 26 mpg, even without air conditioning. I should average 30 mpg combined, 22 in city, 37 on highway, or so Toyota says... I never drive too fast (I average 22 mph!), no city, no highway, I mainly drive uphill/downhill and on the plain through the country. I'm not so pleased with this fuel economy. Do you think it's acceptable or not? Is it possible that there's something wrong with the tranny? Any suggestions on how I could improve it? By the way, I sometimes have some "hunting" between gears going downhill, even with the O/D off. Is there anything I can do to get rid of it?
Have you kept up on the oil and tranny fluid intervals?
Air filter clean and not clogged?
Have you cleaned the MAF and IACT sensors?
Reset the ECU yet?
22 mph is bad, but keep in mind uphill and downhill driving is a lot of strain on the engine and would therefore decrease your mpgs.
Hunting gears part is designed into the tranny unfortunately.
-
2001 ECU would be needed.
Toyota ECUs aren't known for allowing the public to alter the ECU, which is a big reason why there isn't a lot of aftermarket parts as compared to a Honda or Mitsubishi vehicle.
Question:
Engine bolt right up to the transmission?
If I recall correctly the Matrix had 3 or different transmissions (AWD, XRS 6-speed and I think 2 different trannys for the 1zz-fe motor).
Hopefully you get the Matrix up and running soon.
-
2001 Corolla engine?
As long as it's the 1zz-fe motor it should work.
I believe you need to have a whole new ECU - one that goes with the 2001 motor to make it work.
-
probably tires are going bad.
Just don't know what can cause a stem to go bad though.
Perhaps one of those "fix a flat" sprays can be a temporary fix till you replace the tires.
-
have you googled "toyota parts"?
plenty of options for you to find the parts you need.

Rims:
The 2003-2008 Matrix have a wheel offset of 5x100.
The 2009 models (not the XRS) also have a wheel offset of 5x100.
The 2009 Matrix XRS has a wheel ofset of 5x114.3
Some Toyota rims that WILL fit on a 5x100 wheel offset:
Toyota Corolla (2004 - 2008CE, LE, S, XRS (same as Matrix 16's).
Toyota Celica GT (15 inch) and GTS (16 inch)
Scion TC - OEM 17's and 18s.
The Scion TC 17 inch rims are actually 2 lbs. lighter than the Matrix OEM 16s.
Tires to fit the rims can be calculated to the same wheel diameter via:
http://www.rims-n-tires.com/info_specs.jsp...%20/%20Comparer
I hope this helps current and future Matrix owners.

A little update:
Borla has discontinued making the axleback exhaust for the 2003-2008 Matrix.
You may still find some on ebay or other Toyota sites used.
Vibrant does make an exhaust for the 2003-2008 Matrix as well as GReddy (DTM).
Both are axleback but you can custom make piping from after the cat. to the axleback muffler.
Vibrant is just a tad "throttier" than the OEM exhaust and the GReddy sounds very nice and smooth - not Honda fart can loud, but low and deep.
