  1. Scion's not bad...I think the TC is kind of a cool little car.

    I think so as well.

Too bad that so many people have them now, especially in Southern California - too many @ssholes think they own the road here.

Give Scion a bad name - IMO (in my opinion)

Which is why I think the Scion TC is the Honda Civic of Toyota.

  2. :lol::lol:

I think it's a cool look though...much more of what it should've been the first time around. Closer to the Subaru WRX wagon...sporty, agressive, etc.

What attracted me to the 1st gen matrix was the design reminded me of those mid - 90s Honda Civic hatchbacks.

Being a Toyota made it even better, which is why I got mine on May of 2002.

But I am starting to consider of trading in this one for the new 2009 Matrix XRS.....

  3. Hi everyone, i am new in here, but i am not new to toyota's, anyway , i just picked up a 87 gts fx16, and was wondering if there was anyone manufacturing performance parts for these still? i am mostly into toyota hi-lux 4x4's having 4 of them at the moment: www.bodydamageinc.com we are a toyota based 4x4 club here in wa. state. i have a cpl of pics of the gts, i just bought it from an abandoned vehicle auction, for...$ 100.oo yes, and it runs, and drives good, interior is excellent. no one at the auction had any idea what it was, but i did. here are some pics..post-2801-1196583771_thumb.jpgpost-2801-1196584311_thumb.jpg

    You are so lucky!

I had that car - GTS - for a couple of years back in 91. Bought it used and had a blast with it.

I miss those days when Toyota made cars that would last forever.

  4. Just to let everyone know, I am on Scion TC rims (17s).

The center caps are from a Toyota Prius (dealership item) and they fit perfectly flush with the TC rims.

I didn't want to sport the "Scion" name - even though Scion is under the Toyota brand. ;)

  5. Intake Manufacturers for the Matrix:

2003 - 2004 can use SRI (Short Ram Intake) or CAI (Cold Air Intake).

2005 - 2008 can use SRI, but CAI cause a CEL to appear - system running too lean. I believe Fujita and maybe Injen make a CAI for the 05 - 08 that does not cause a CEL to appear.

2004 XRS have an air pump, that partially gets in the way of installing a CAI.

SRI produces a little more power off the line.

CAI produces a little more power on the top end.

If you are in a flood prone area - I would suggest you use a SRI - to avoid hydrolocking - a few rare instances have occurred with a CAI - AEM does make a Bypass filter if the filter does get partially submerged.

But why would anyone want to cross a heavily flooded area anyway?

    SRI manufacturers:

K&N Typhoon - best "sounding" SRI

AEM SRI - comes w/ the AEM Dryflow filter, filter can be bought seperately and installed w/ other brands.

Weapon R - not as widely known. Comes with a heat shield.

    CAI manufacturers:

TRD CAI - if installed by dealership, warranty is valid.

AEM CAI - comes with the AEM Dryflow filter, filter can be bought seperately and installed w/ other brands.

Injen CAI - some have stated the best "sounding" intake

Fujita CAI - still new but are reputed to be an excellent brand

  6. Could take out the cats... won't pass smog, but you can always put them back on.

There is a high - flow cat. from Magnaflow

    Exhausts available for the Matrix:

Magnaflow - the ONLY full cat-back exhaust on the market.

All the others are axle back - meaning one would need to do a full custom piping from the cat. after.

    Borla - probably the best

TRD - rebadged & overpriced Borla

GReddy - one of best sounding exhaust

  7. Suspension mods:

    Both 1zz & 2zz -

Springs: Eibach, Tein, Progress, Hotchkiss, & TRD are the main brands that most people prefer.

Coilovers: Tein SS, TRD, K-Sports are the choices.

Front Strut Bar: DC Sports, TRD, Megan Sports, & the OEM Corolla XRS

Front Sway Bar: Hotchkiss & TRD - as far as I can recall.

Rear Sway Bar: TRD, Progress, & Hotchkiss

    Motor Mounts: ESMM

Another equation to the suspension is the tires.

The OEM Matrix tires - especially the Continentals suck!!! Only last about 15k miles before they go dangerously bald!!!!

OEM rims that fit the Matrix:

    (5x100 bolt pattern)

    The Scion TC (17s & 18s) & Celica GTS (16s)

P;ease add more if I have missed any.

  8. 1zz - Intake, headers, Exhaust.

2zz - Intake, Port & Polish OEM exhaust manifold, & Exhaust.

    That's basically the foundation.

    Other items:

    Camcon - VVT-i controller

    Lightweight rims

    TRD S/C - 1zz only

GReddy S/C, GM S/C, & Haas Turbo are available for the 2zz.

    Nitrous - applicable for both.

Please add anymore mods that I may not have included.

  9. Apologies on reviving another old thread.....

What were the 6 codes?

If all or most were emissions related, most likely the dealership will cover the repair costs.

If not, find out what parts are needed and then shop & compare else where.

As stated I have a 2003 Matrix - 80k miles - and still on the original oxygen sensor.

    So far so good. :D
