  1. Senor, look at it this way: It's not expensive to change out the power steering fluid yourself. I think they are trying to get some labor hour charge$ out of you. You can do it yourself. And once you go synthetic, you'd probabvly never have to change it again.

  2. You know what? I may not be an expert on this, but if the mechanic suggested dirt in the converter heat shield, that's not crazy. I saw that happen once before in Tennessee, where the guy was driving the car through mud in the summer.

Yes, they excluded the tranny/diff problem; one of them mentioned they had

a weird case of dirt getting into the catal. converter heat shield causing some

sort of a rattling noise; gear lever outside tranny? I will try to look at it.

Could it make such noise? True, it appears at 1800-2000rpm, and it is also

more noticeable when going from 3rd to 4th at 30 mph - (while little underpowerd).

Anyway, I called toyota service, mechanic told me if the noise is only at 3rd or 4th gear

    it must be inside transmission...

    thanks

  3. This is a great issue a lot of people encounter. And a great post. And I appreciate it, because us tall guys who bought 1994-2000 Corollas must be thinking, "what were we thinking?"

    1. If you have that kind of seat modification done, which I think will involve serious welding and cutting and possibly subframe issues, whether or not it was done by someone who specializes in this type of work is irrelevant.

    2. If you get pulled over by a cop, the problem is that your car modifications will be evaluated at a low constitutional law standard (rational relation test) because driving has been determined to be a privilege

    and not a right.

    3. Beware of the opportunity to be a defendant in a civil case! If you hit some hapless bloke, regardless of the fact that they were cited or ticketed and you were not, if there is ANY question as to liability you will be sued, and the plaintiff will call whoever made the welding mods to your ride after they find out who he is after your responses to interrogetories they propound on you.

  4. RTV probably won't seal the leak. You are going to have to clean the area very well, probably with engine cleaner, and try Permatex on it. Let it dry well before using it. It will take a whole afternoon to dry, too.

  5. I'm going a little nuts trying to figure out how to replace the lights behind the fan motor control and the temperature indicator knob on my '02 Camry. The dealer wants two hours labor to do this. Is it possible that the process can really entail disassembling most of the dash, as they've told me?

NO. You should be able to pull it out with a butterknife bent at 30degrees or better yet a trim tool. I can email you the how-to page.

  6. OK--tell me exactly what broke: the handle? What does the door panel underneath look like? Anything broken under there?

Hello all. Recently broke the interior passenger side door handle on my 02' Camry. Went to the dealer and purchased a new one and I've been examining the new one to try to figure out how to remove the old one. Looks like I may not have to pull the entire door panel off to replace the handle? Does anyone know for certain if this is the case?

If I do have to remove the door panel, does anyone have any tips on doing so?

  7. Your air filter has a small bolt in each corner. They need to be removed, with a 10MM wrench, I believe. Undo them and lift the cover up: the air filter comes right out. You might as well clean out the leaves and any other dirt that's in the bottom of the filter housing while you are at it. Put the new filter in, and put the bolts back in.

There is another air filter: it's the cabin air filter inside the glove box. Are you trying to replace that?

How many miles are on the 02? I ask because you may be able to get away with cleaning the PCV valve out without replacing it.

  8. Well, I hate to say it, but since there are other things that might end up being the problem, it's going to have to be looked at by a mechanic who can fully diagnose it.

    Steve,

Thq for responding to the post.

Would it be possible to suggested what needs to be done to fix this so that the I am able to use the crusie control ?

    Regards

    Rahul
