both of my vehicles have had pop-up hood latches. neither have had trunk latches - i needed a key. until tonight, i had never heard of a pop-up trunk latch.
how common are they in vehicles today ?
and who may i blame for this ridiculous invention ?
the trunk is the one place that has some safety for storing things. with a latch, it is now available to anyone who breaks into the car.
of all the stupid convenience inventions, this one takes the cake.
Don't they usually need to be unlocked from the lock switch inside the car before you can unlatch them? I had a BMW that was like that...had a button to open the trunk on the trunk itself, but had to be unlocked from inside first.

I would think that both are going to be gas guzzlers to a certain extent...you're hauling around a lot of weight with a Sequoia, and those are both big engines.

I bought this 2007 Yaris pre-owned with 23,000 miles in it already. Since then I have done all scheduled maintenance. New air filter, spark plugs calibrated, fuel injectors cleaned.
The one time that gave me 33mpg I drove non-stop for 350kms at 75mph.
Any suggestions? What are the 3 main culprits for high fuel consumption?
Speed is a big one...you'll get much better mileage around 60mph than 75mph (lower RPMS = better fuel economy). Maintenance is also big, but it sounds like you've got that covered.
A few things:
Temperature is a factor if you're constantly running vehicle accessories like heat or a/c. If you keep windows closed, especially at higher speeds, you'll get better aerodynamics and better mileage. Don't haul a lot of stuff around in the car...less total weight is better. Make sure your tires are properly inflated.

In fact 14.5 kms per liter equals 34mpg which for a Sienna would be great mileage but not for a Yaris with an engine less than half the size of a VAN.
The adversited mileage is 44mpg highway and 32mpg city
As already said, I am getting 34mgp in the highway not the 44 advertised.
Have you been doing all of your scheduled maintenances? What kind of highway driving do you do? High speed?

I have an 09 corolla that I need to put a small tow package on. I would like to buy one of the small trailers that lows has and to be able to tow a few sheets of plywood and 2x4s ect. How do I put or where do I get one put on my car or can I do it myself?
Try Uhaul...a hitch should be $200-300. A Corolla isn't really recommended for towing though...

Can't believe it. Over a 1000 views and noone has responded? Either there is not a lot of Yaris out there or else other Yaris drivers are getting less mileage than me. <_<
No experience with Yaris...sorry... :( If I'm doing my math right, that sounds like about 40mpg, which is great mileage.

My Highlander's Factory 3-year warranty expires in a few days, I want to buy an extended warranty before then, I believe I cannot if I do it afterwards. Where do I start? Are there any links or guides out there? I understand I can buy one from any dealer, so I assume there is competition, who has the best deals? TIA.
There's not going to be a huge difference between dealers, but you may be able to get a few bucks off here or there. Check out this site to start:

You can still buy an extended warranty after the original warranty expires; just not as much coverage is available.

Looks like I'm finally due for a set of tires for the GS350. I could use a few opinions on the new ones. I'm looking for something very quiet, but still sticky with great performance.
The front runner right now is this one:
Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus
245/40ZR-18 93Y

Bump for a very nice ride. Too bad you aren't closer to SoCal or else you would have a buyer already.... namely me! Good luck with the sale, I'm sure the next owner will be thrilled with that car.
Hey, you could get it shipped for only about $1700.

still wonder why the driver just put the car in neutral (auto or manual transmission) and turn off the ignition......
...and if a certain someone posts non-sensical garbage in this thread or ANY other thread - they will have an extra 5 floor mats in their car on the driver's side floor. . . ;)
I agree. Never saw the spam post because you killed it so quick, but I'll donate a set of used Toyota mats to the cause!!
I've heard a theory presented on that accident in CA that perhaps the driver did it purposely. He was apparently a cop who investigated car accidents, so should definitely have known what to do, especially as the car was only going 40mph when the issue began. ES350s take awhile to get to 120, so he had some time. I hope for his family's sake that it was not intentional.

I haven't looked at one in a couple years, but I remember a .kwi file is software, not maps.
-
Yes, if you were to put the disc in your computer, and look at the files, some are data (maps) files, and some are software. My thought is that you could take the data from a European disc, and the software from a US disc. That way, you'd use the US software.

Might have to start watching BBC...I'm sure we'll be hearing about this for awhile on our networks here. Disregard the fact that NHTSA just closed the SIXTH case for Toyota because of lack of evidence other than operator error or improper floor mat installation...we all know that ABC knows everything.

If it's only $15 for a two day subscription, you might want to do it. TIS is a pretty handy thing, and in two days, you could download or print a lot of useful stuff. An actual printed repair manual will be a few hundred bucks.

He could probably burn a combination disc...use the firmware from one disc, the map data from the other.

For some reason the Yaris I bought didn't have a tachometer even though it's a stick. I'd like to install one but want to avoid drilling holes in the dash. I've seen a molded plastic piece that holds up to three instruments that mount on the door post. It might be a bit racy for some old fart (me) to have on a little car but it'd be nice to have a tach when I get frisky and crank up the sterio to listen to my old timey music.
Any ideas?
I think Greddy and many of the other big tuners have those gauges available.

will thie connector (a PIO) work with the PIO bluetooth. the toyota site changes details on a dail;y basis.
I think the connector is a direct connect, nothing to do with bluetooth.

i have 2 years. is there much of a chance that someone from this forum would be selling one ?
another option - get a toyota car that is 1975 or older, just to keep for a few years. are there any models that i should look towards ? any models that i should steer away from ? i just want something dependable, where parts are still easy to get, and that doesnt have to be smogged. i dont drive a lot (6,000 miles a year or so).
Corolla is probably your best bet...more of those than anything. And they were pretty simple, so repairs should be easy.

I think the interior lock is enough to dissuade the casual thief, but I think the organized crooks can defeat most car security...they'll probably just take the entire vehicle.
