  1. At a cost of $35 per service, which includes an oil filter as well as a thorough check of everything every 3000 miles as well as the $5 tip and tax; the peace of mind purchased at that price seems to me not be worth the bother of quibbling. Consequence is that at the 161000 miles the car is like fresh out of the showroom with the advantage of no monthly payments

The car (Solara SLE V6) is still modern looking , does not look forlorn, and I have plans for it. Maintenance done properly a mechanical device will serve the master indefinitely.

Couldn't have said it better myself!!!

  2. Here's the kicker to that recall: if you read the fine print, it's only the aftermarket brake fluids that cause the issue. If you maintain your car at Toyota and use Toyota brand brake fluid, you're fine, no issues. There's some sort of polymer in the Toyota fluid that prevents the problem by lubricating the seal, and when people start using off-brands, they don't have the polymer in them, and the seal dries out. I always say maintain your car at the dealer (especially when you hear Jiffy Lube horror stories!)...here's a good reason why.

On the Sienna: not every model uses the same components, so no reason it should be involved in the recall. It may just be getting old, unfortunately...

  3. A good part of that problem is that you live in Michigan, and the road commission uses salt on the roads...it's very corrosive, and almost every car that gets driven in that stuff eventually develops rust, corrosion, etc. Double check your warranty book, because I'm not sure what the warranty term is for corrosion. It may be longer than the standard 3/36k warranty.
