    Anyone doing better then this?

Here's some things Lexus recommends for improving gas mileage on the RX hybrid..it will probably help on the Highlander:

    1.) Minimize cold starts

    2.) Accelerate slowly

    3.) Avoid heavy braking

4.) Avoid speeds in excess of 60 mph

5.) In stop-and-go traffic, accelerate to your desired speed, then lift off the accelerator allowing the vehicle to run more on electric power

6.) Make sure tire pressure is at recommended pressure

    7.) Avoid carrying unnecessary loads

8.) Use air conditioner and defroster only as needed

    9.) Use premium fuel

10.) Use the "D" gear position instead of "B". Only use the "B" gear position in order to maintain speed on steep grades.

I'm not driving a Highlander hybrid, but I have a couple thoughts on hybrid gas mileage:

1.) The more accessories you have on, the more power you need, and the more likely your gas engine is to be on. I know it's been pretty warm lately, so I'm guessing you've been using the a/c a lot. You'll probably start to see better gas mileage in the early fall when the a/c doesn't have to work so hard.

2.) You most likely won't have a good indication of what your gas mileage will be until your car is truly broken in...give it a few thousand miles.

Other than that, enjoy your new Highlander. I've heard they're pretty quick, and lots of fun to drive.

  3. Toyota have announced a 225bhp version of their Corolla, using TTE's compressor (supercharger) on the existing 1ZZ-FE 1.8 VVTi engine.

The newcomer differs from the existing range-topper thanks to a deeper front spoiler, bigger airdam, distinctive twin tailpipes and 18-inch alloy wheels.

Expected to debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month, the hotter T Sport will be powered by a 225bhp engine. The Toyota will go head-to-head with the new 'hot hatches' such as the Golf GTi

Looks sweet, but what I really want is a new Supra Turbo!! I've had three, and if Toyota is going to do this level of performance, why not step up to a new Supra? I don't want to have to buy a Nissan, Mazda, etc.

  4. Does anyone have any comments regarding the Bridgestone Potenza tires that come on the 2004 Solara?

I had a blow out today and while surfing the web regarding comments relating to these tires, I found this website and joined today.  I also found some not so nice comments regarding the tires that come with the car.  Any suggestions for replacement tires for the Bridgestone Potenza tires?

I always had great luck with Bridgestone Potenza RE730s on my Supra, but you might want to look at Kumhos...great tire, good performance, good value.

  5. Hello all,

I am a recent owner of 95 Corolla and I am very glad to own it. I do however feel that it lacks power when I am trying to merge into highways or accelerate after stopping. I have driven 97 Honda Civic (1.6 L) earlier and it did not have this problem. My Corolla is 1.8 L and should have been more or atleast equally powerful.

Is it just my car or its true for every 90s Corolla.

Also, will it help if I install a Cold Air Intake ? Will it make my car considerably louder or just a little louder ? Is it legal to Cold Air Intake in MD, USA ? Does it affect the emission tests ?

Hope somebody can help me out.

    Thanks

Check out www.trdusa.com. They might be able to help with suggestions to make your car perform better if you call them. Cold air intake won't make much difference in your...maybe a couple horsepower, if that, and it won't make a difference in emissions. Did you try some basic maintenance like a tune-up? Maybe that's your problem?

  6. I have a 97 Camry with original 60,000 miles and runs good but what to have replaced for preventive maintaince? I am wondering paricularly about the timing belt on this 2.2l 4 cyl eng and what is the going price to have one changed and what's envoved...pulling the engine? It seems fairly tight in there. Thanks for any Info or advice.

Timing belt, tune-up, replace all fluids, inspect everything...that's what's recommended at 60k. I did it at 87k, and it was just fine. I talked to the technician, and they also said 80k is okay. In fact, I think Toyota changed the recommended timing belt replacement interval in 1999 or 2000 to 90,000 miles between belts.

Not sure what's involved, but I'm pretty sure they don't pull the engine.

  7. Firstly.

This club has no official connection to Toyota.

It is an owners club, where Toyota owners and enthusiasts can meet.

Secondly, I understand your frustration, HOWEVER, I have NEVER heard Toyota having the reputation of being Quiet - if you want silence, buy a Lexus...

Toyota has a reputation for reliability.

If your not happy with your car, i do feel for you, however, i do think you are over-reacting to the issue, surely if you bought the car new, and you were unhappy you could request a refund or replacement, and the fact you havent suggests you cannot be that unhappy with the car..

He's right...you don't buy a Toyota because it's quiet, although some are very quiet. You buy a Toyota because you can drive it for 500,000 miles with minimal expense. I have a Lexus and a Toyota, and, yes, my Camry is louder than my new GS300. But I'm not complaining...I have 173,000 miles on the Camry and absolutely zero issues with the car. To put this in perspective, I also (unfortunately) have a Ford Explorer. It's a 2003 with 60k, and it's had many, many major mechanical problems in its short life...and it's far noisier than my old Camry and (I'm sure) your Highlander. Go test drive any domestic SUV, and your Highlander will suddenly seem very quiet and smooth.

  8. Hi everyone,

Ive recieved my dads 96 Camry LE with 190,000 miles on it. The cars in almost perfect mechanical condition, but the interior is pretty bad. I was wondering if you guys could tell me how to do this stuff:

    1. Somehow clean the seats and floor, its not made of leather. Some sort of fuzzy stuff that is now very crusty.

    2. Make the doors swing a little bit easier. They groan and creak really loud when opened and closed.

    3. Remove a mass of bumper stickers

    4. The passenger side seat belt is jammed and can not be forced out. Some smart car guy said something about a "roller" being messed up. He also said something about him fixing it for $500 so im trying to do it myself.

    5. Replace radio attenna

Thats about it, any input appreciated.

1.) You can shampoo the carpets, but you're better off spending a $100 or so and having someone professionally detail the car. It's worth the money, even if the car has 190k.

2.) Have you tried WD-40 or white lithium grease?

3.) Try Goo-Gone. Removes bugs, tar, sticky stuff, etc. You can buy it at any place like Walmart, Meijers, hardware store, etc.

4.) Seatbelts are a safety issue. You should consider having it done by someone who knows what they're doing. $500 sounds very steep, though. I think you can replace the entire seatbelt mechanism for well under $500.

5.) Is it a power antenna? What's specifically wrong with it?

  10. I have a 2002 Camry with the NAV system.  My experience with mine is the address entered activates the system.  You should have to do nothing.  The NAV system should recognize the fact that you are not on course and find you an alternate route home.  This process should take no more then ~ 5 seconds.

    Hope this helps!

There's button in the setup you have to press...it says something about "automatically reroute".

  11. I'm selling my 1998 Toyota Camry if anyone is looking for a nice, reliable daily driver. It's in great shape, has approx. 172k, and is in excellent mechanical condition. I work at a Lexus dealer, so my car has been maintained by Lexus technicians, including a recent 60k service with timing belt, and new front brakes.

I'm only selling the car because I bought a new Lexus, and I don't need it any more...there's no problems with it. It's a Camry, after all!

    Here's what's on my Camry:

    1998 Camry LE

    V6

    Leather seats

    Cassette/CD player

    Automatic transmission

    Heated seats

    Fog lamps

    Rear spoiler

    Gold package

    Wood trim package

    Toyota keyless/security system

    A/C

    Cruise control

    Power windows/locks/mirrors

The car looks and drives like it has about 50,000 miles, as I take very good care of my cars. I'm located in Northern Kentucky, just outside of Cincinnati, if anyone wants to look at my Camry.

Asking $5500 or best offer. Email me with any questions, or if you'd like photos. I'll be available until July 1, then gone on vacation until July 10th.
