  1. Sorry to hear that you got a lemon 1zz motor in your Matrix. I hope you were under warranty to have the issues taken care of. I have never heard that the same car can have a spun bearing & a thrown rod, unless it was boosted with some Forced Induction power addder and even then not many have had the issues that you had. Correction to your post though. The 1zz motor is Toyota's own which I believe is made in Canada (IIRC the Vibe & 9thgen Corolla are made in California) & the 2zz motor is Yamaha made. To convert your 1zz Matrix to a 2zz powered one would require: different motor, different tranny, different ECU, different shifter assembly, and a different gauge cluster. It would be very difficult & very expensive, but it can be done I suppose if you throw enough money on it. It would be more cost effective to get a new 1zz-fe motor, and if you want more power - get a TRD S/C or perhaps go turbo.
  2. I'm not sure if I have placed this in the correct forum & I don't know if the policies here allow me to do so. I just want to get the word out for Toyota owners who have a 1zz-fe or 2zz-ge motor that there are now turbo kits available. http://www.newcelica.org/forums/showthread.php?t=273262 I am NOT a vendor or have any ties with this company.
  3. Is it because not that many post in there? Just curious is all.
  4. Okay here goes. Was using regular dino oil for about a year. Switched to Mobil 1 full synthetic (yes i heard that Mobil 1 may be using Group 3 rumors, don't believe the rumors myself), immediately noticed smoother operation, ease of acceleration, & maybe better fuel economy. That is my personal experience & research. I have a 1zz-fe motor with VVT-i. I used to have a Corolla GTS with the 4a-ge motor. Same results/experience.
  5. Try this wheel calculator: http://www.rims-n-tires.com/info_specs.jsp...%20/%20Comparer
  6. Regular oil is fine for your daily driver. Semi - syn is good if you want extended oil change intervals or drive hard on your vehicle. Full syn. is a bit overkill, but an excellent peace of mind investment.
  7. Shouldn't this be posted in the correct section? This is the "Hi, make yourself @ home welcome" thread. To answer your question, you may need to take down some of the interior to get that to work.
  8. Did you mean the MAF (Mass AirFlow) sensor? There is a spot for it on all SRI & CAI. Not sure about the one's from ebay though.

    2ZZ-GE

Let me add Camcon from Power Enterprises to your emanage ultimate. http://www.powerenterpriseusa.net/products...mcon/camcon.htm Some time tuning these 2 gadgets and you have a very nicely powered 2zz.
  10. Be sure to clean all the other sensors to avoid any other "issues" related to driveability.
  11. Good looking Corolla! For more ideas for your Corolla may I suggest: 9thgencorolla.com Also the K&N Typhoon is a SRI (short ram intake). Wheel gap is a 4 letter word. Welcome to TOC US.
  12. Looks like the car from the Munsters TV show.
  13. yup. Even though the engine maybe already up to normal operating temps. - the transmission also needs to get to normal operating temps. Take it easy on the 1st 1/4 mile or so after till the tranny gets up to temp.
  14. Semi syn or full synthetic also help with Cold start ups.
  15. I have a Matrix and the transmission runs hot. Tranny fluid intervals are needed @ 30k miles instead of the Toyota recommended change @ 60k. Tranny cooler keeps the temperatures down for better tranny life and to a certain extent - longer fluid interval change. It's not a necessity, but it can be a useful modification. Think along the lines of Ground Wires.
  16. If $ & gas mileage is a concern, go with the new Corolla. The Scion xB is also a good choice.
  17. Toyota in Japanese means "The company that Honda copies". ;)
  18. Most likely you have a 1zz-fe engine. They are known for high idle @ startup & is normal. I admit I was concerned as well @ 1st. 1zz motors are known to have a "weird" idle, sometimes even after warmed up to operating temp. - sitting @ a light - it sounds like it will die, thankfully not often - only after "spirited" driving.
  19. Not available here in the States, I imagine shipping from AU would be $$$. But if one were to get it, a great exhaust would be the Magnaflow Cat-back exhaust OR a custom exhaust with 2.5 inch piping - Borla exhaust (which has now been recently discontinued) - high flow cat. - OEM resonator (to keep the sound police friendly) and a JP midpipe. Others may have different preferences on the parts, but it is basically all the same.
  20. For some reason, it works just fine now. Added pics to my gallery. Most are the same seen in this thread. I might have to add more Matrix meet pics to this thread. ;)
  21. I know. Just trying to increase my post count. :P ;) edit: I am unable to load any of my images to the Gallery. I have tried both uploading straight from my computer & uploading images from a free image host site. The latter says "fatal error" and the former says to contact the system administrator.
  22. More pics of the light show. Currently using Silverstar bulbs in the headlights & Silverstar Ultras for the fogs. Had them on for almost 2 years now with no issues. Plan to upgrade to HIDs whenever the Silverstars burn out. Turn signals are Nokya "artic white". I thought about getting the turn signals from Silverstar, but I do not like the amber look for the turns. edited: Sorry the crappy pics, need a better camera.
