  1. I just got mine too. I have the orange mica three door. I choose the LE model, tinted the windows and upgraded the stereo to the 6 disc in dash model. I love it!!! It was a pleasant surprise. I choose it to be a comuter car and I wanted something that was good on gas, but with the Toyota quality and something I felt safe in. I will never buy domestic again, but that's just me. I'm going to change the tires and rims next year, wait until after the snow is gone. I'm a tuner at heart, so I love that this car has so many options, even though it just came out. I had to wait about 2 months for mine, but that's a long story.

Can't wait to see one of these tuned up.

  2. Yes, It worked for me. I was able to open the trunk as well as the Trunk lid lever has started working.

    THanks a lot

Remember how you did this for future reference...it's useful if you ever valet park.

  3. Hi,

My 96 Camry has touched 90k and I will like to get it serviced. What are the things that needs to changed /serviced. I do not have an idea. Please let me know.

    Thanks

    Suresh

It's just like the 30k, plus the timing belt if you haven't had it done. Did you do the 30k?

  4. Ive got a 1993 paseo and its bone stock, and thats the problem. I bought the car for 400 bucks and drove it home. It has a great interior a little bit of cosmetic damage and 180,000 miles but runs and drives great. I took it to the track and on an eight of a mile t ran 65 miles an hour and got a 10.4 on my best run. But that aint fast enough. Ive looked for engine mods but very little luck. I cant really afford to take the car off the road for more than a weekend so a motor swap is out. Ive thought about building a custom turbo kit but i still dont think thats gonna do what i want it to speed wise. I was wondering if anybody knows if you can bolt a different head on that motor and build compression, horsepower , etc. without having to dump a lot of cash. Also besides an underdrive cold or short ram and exhaust are there any companies that manufacture any other bolt on performance parts? Any and all tips would be greatly appreciated. Oh yea if i could find a 4e-fte would it be hard to swap it out over my 5e-fe? would that head bolt directly on with minor adjustments? thanks any pics or ideas give me a shout

    I wonder if you could fit a 2JZGTE in it? :D :D :D

  5. My wife and I just bought a 05 Highlander std 2WD V6 less than a month ago. Coming from a 99 VW Passat wagon I'll say the Highlander is noisier. Based on recommendations from the Lexus RX330 forum, today I removed the roof rack cross bars in attempt to lower the wind noise. It doesn't sound like this is what you're hearing but you may want to give it a try. Takes about 15mins and is easily reversible if you need them.

Can't give any feedback on weather it worked or not (still sitting in driveway) but personally I think it looks better without them.

    Good luck.

    Mike

Did the roof rack removal help? There's also a way to adjust the roof rack so that it doesn't make the noise...have you tried that?

  6. Thanks for the update. The dealer will repair mine tomorrow and since my warranty is expired, I really hope this is the end. I will ask them the keep the worn part (always do this) just to make sure.

    I'll keep you posted.

Good luck! And as you've tried to get this fixed while it was under warranty, try to get handled this last time under warranty too. It's worth a shot!

  7. :D First time Toyota and SUV owner here..... thus far my 4runner is super duper, and whenever my sister gets in she keeps saying that she feels tall! Just wanted to share.....

Thanks for sharing, and congrats on the new 4Runner. 4Runners are fantastic, durable, reliable vehicles. May you have many happy years of driving!

  8. Okay so the master cylinder has been replaced. The brake system is doing very good. My mechanic (brother-in-law) said my rotors are grooved up but okay for the time being. The motor uses or leaks oil BADLY. The oil was changed 2000 miles ago and it was BONE DRY this morning. Gotta figure that one out. It is dying some, seems to be a fuel problem, may still need a carb rebuild. It doesn't keep its idle always. Oh well, it was free. If anyone has had a similar problem fixed let me know please. Thanks alot!

Good luck!! A possible simple thing (although it may be short term if the fuel pump is on the way out) is to try and replace the fuel filter if you think there's a fuel problem.

  9. Hello, I'm known around the net as the mensajero. I have a 1997 Toyota RAV4. This is regarded as a very special Toyota Product. The RAV4 is considered as ..."1 of the most influential vehicles of the last 50 years " Please click link. Let start from here and then I'll start asking questions. ;)

    http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/cars/ne...ential-cars.htm

It's definitely been very influential, right up there with Caravans and F150s. What questions do you have?

  10. I'm getting worse mileage than you (17 city- don't drive much on highway) Dealer said car was still new (3000 miles) and should do better with time, also said milage is negatively effected by cold. Sounds like false advertising claims to me. I have been driving to improve fuel economy with limited results.

Ouch...17 city. However, unfortunately, it's definitely still new, but you should be getting progressively better mileage soon. What have you been doing to improve fuel economy? Mileage is adversely affected by cold because people have a tendency to have more accessories running when it's cold...heater will always be on, seat heaters will be on, you may let the car warm up longer before driving, etc.

  11. Hi, I took my car to a mechanic and he said I have a leak in my power steering and need to replace my rack and pinion. How much does this normally cost? And what kind of power steering fluid should I use? I did go to Pep Boys and saw some power steering fluid that has "stop leak" written all over it but not sure if I could use it. I'm new to this site so any comments or suggestions would be appreciated..thanks! :)

Stop leak would at best be a temporary fix....

  12. It's quite unsurprising, Supra is a dying breed, old and new. Everyone these days are trying to get their hands on one. It's sad really, these cars never sold high in numbers when manufactued...now that the power potential for the Supra has been realized....well....it's a matter of supply vs demand. You get the picture. I've got my mk3, trying to get a mk4 (so overpriced these days). Even if I

never sucessfully find a mk4 supra, I will always be happy to have had my mk3. Someone once asked if I would trade my 3 for a 4.I thought about it....and I came up with no. The fact is, I've grown on my car sooo much, even though I've only had it for a short amount of time. Guess thats why they are so much in demand, they are so damn lovable.

Rumor has it, the Supra returns in 2007, Toyota's entry into the high performance import sport compact market...for direct competition with Nissan's 350Z, Mitsubishi's Evo8/Eclipse, and Mazda's RX8. Only it seems it may more than likely be released under a new name. Perhaps 4000GT? We should look at Lexus new models like the GS for the styling of the new Supra. If you've ever looked at an old mag add for the mk3, you will see a catchy phrase: "The Supra Dynasty Begins". I can only hope that the new Supra, if there will be one, will live up to the dynasty name.

    automata ;)

The Supra was supposed to return in 2000. Then in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005...now 2007. As far as I know, it's still not been decided on if it's coming back. I vaguely remember one of the execs at Toyota saying they would not "enter the horsepower race" because it's simply not a profitable category with such low production numbers. Unfortunately for those of us who love the Supra, this seems true. Unless you considered the concept Lexus LF-A the replacement for the Supra. It's only going to be $100k or so. Another thing to watch out for is the new Lexus IS coupe (LF-C concept). This year, the IS350 sedan is 308 horsepower...imagine what it'll be once Lexus builds the IS in a coupe with a hybrid powertrain. Zoom!

By the way, here is my baby. Not the best looking (not yet anyway), but definitely a performer.

I like what you've done so far. Get the body kit painted, and it'll be good looking car! What kind of mechnical modifications do you have?

  13. Can anyone tell me all the possible causes of an intermittent lighting of the brake warning light (on the dashboard)? I know some of them... the emergency brake is in fact all the way off, and the brake fluid has been consistently on the "full" mark. Could it be a simple problem with the switch making the car think the emergency brake is still on? Could it be a lot worse?

Any help you can give me before I spend a lot of money having it looked at would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Does the intermittent light come on at specific times (say, when you're going around a curve, or the car is leaning somehow)?

  14. I have had 2 sets of the Potenza tires with no problems at all. My car came with Michelin, and had nothing be problems with them. A friend of mine owns a tire wholesale company, and he highly recommended the Bridgestone Potenza tires. He was right.

I'm surprised you had trouble with the Michelins...they're usually a great tire. You'll be happy with the Potenzas, though.

  15. Hello all! First post here. Later this week, I am going to receive a 1978 Corolla 2-door hatchback (not liftback) from a friend who no longer needs it. Actual price, $0. It runs good and other than excessive cancer around the rear fenders, it doesn't look too bad. It doesn't always hold it's idle, sometimes it idles down to a stall. But it doesn't all the time, so I'm thinking it's a problem with the butterfly valve in the carb. My stepdad is out of town but he's a carb mechanic, and when he gets back I should have the car by then. So I'll have him check it out. However, the brake master cylinder is in bad shape and I will need one soon. Sometimes the car doesn't stop too good and the brake problem indicator light is always on. Do common shops like O'reilleys and autozone and advance carry parts for cars this old that are foreign? Any knowledge, advice, and even guesses are appreciated. I will have to get this car roadworthy FAST as I will be taking it out of state in a few weeks or months. Thanks and have a great day all! :) :) :)

Congrats on the free car! The good news is that there have been more Corollas built in the world than any other car, so you have a good chance of finding parts. It looks like it's about $80 on this site:

  16. 5k should be OK if you do mostly highway driving. If you're in a lot of stop and go traffic then 3k would probably be a better choice.

Seriously, guys...5k with regular oil is ok unless you're doing stuff like the Baja 500 every morning on the way to work. If you read the manual, there's even options for extended mileage service intervaks like 7500 miles. Toyota wouldn't recommend anything that will damage the car. They've got a reputation to maintain, after all.

  17. Also aftermarket alarms are VERY good at draining batteries sometime. Also, you may have an alternator issue where it's not charging the battery, which would explain why it goes dead each time you turn it off...and your battery may be so far gone it's not going to hold a charge.
