yianni Posted April 24, 2007 Share Posted April 24, 2007 About 2 weeks ago I went to start my camry on a Friday night to run out to get some stuff for my baby girl and my car was completley dead. Turn the key all I heard is a couple of clicks and my gauges went nutty. So I had to jump start it it a while to get it running.I did test the alternator and it is working good under load. I noticed that the battery fluid level was very low on half of the battery, so if put some distilled water in it and let it run and too kit for ride for a few miles that night. The car was fine for about a week and last Friday morning it was dead again. I just ran out to Coscto and bought a battery and threw it in and so far it has been only 4 days and it seems to working good. I called the dealorship and told them the problem and told me they recomend that I replae the battery every 4 years. NO WAY I TOLD THEM I DON'T AGREE WITH THAT. humanoid Posted April 24, 2007 Share Posted April 24, 2007 The $tealer could well be right. With all the heat the engine compartment generates, the battery could be dead after four years. I make it a point to replace mine every 4 years just to be on the safe side and for piece of mind. If you don't mind paying extra for one, look into getting an Odyssey red or yellow top battery. Doesn't need water for the lifetime of the battery and won't leak too. It uses a gel based medium instead of water. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Leighcm Posted April 25, 2007 Share Posted April 25, 2007 A lot depends on climate too...in harsh climates, like here in the Las Vegas desert, you can pretty much plan on replacing it every couple years because the heat will kill batteries at an extremely rapid rate. Boater61 Posted September 3, 2007 Share Posted September 3, 2007 I just replaced the battery in my '05 Solara last week. 56,000 miles on it in 27 months. Car wouldn't start and wouldn't take a boost. Next day it started. Thought I had a defective ignition switch because of clunking in the steering column (see other string). Got to dealer, who checked it out. Shorted cell in the battery. They did me a favor and prorated it. Now I've got an 84 month battery in it with replacement guarantee. So, yeah, batteries die young, especially after 4 years.
