woodye85741
Unit has 2 AC buttons: A/C & ECON . Both lightup and can be depressed indepently.Fan circulates un-chilled air. Might it have been charged initially with Freon ? If indeed it had been,is it possible to recharge with more earth-friendly refrigerant ? Will a mechanic be required to drain whatever amount of residual in order to re-charge with a suitable replacement ? Bottom line is,It's getting warmer here and I wanta' be chillin' and be cooo'. If you get my drift.
Leighcm
I think it's not quite so simply to just fill it with R134a instead of R12...probably need a new a/c system. Realistically, it's usually not so simple as adding refrigerant. Usually, there's some other issue that requires replacement of parts, gaskets, etc.
humanoid
Your system must be able to take 134a, those refrigerants aren't interchangeable.
gabep
By your questions it's obvious you need to take it to a qualified A/C repair shop. You can convert the system but it must be done by a qualified shop.

humanoid
There should be a sticker somewhere in the engine compartment that says what kind of refrigerant is used. How can I tell which refrigerant was used ?
