  1. Repair manual says to use either a single or possible second cannister of refrigerant but I cannot find capacity of A/C system. Got AE86 engine 87 corolla with 178000 miles so far. Any DIY mechanics for advice ?
  2. I appreciate your input although I am certain others had performed such repair themselves. Yes, a professional should be able to do what needs to be done. Yet it seems strange that procedure is explained in the repair manual. I would like the input/advice from those who had done before
  3. The '87 corolla DLX I have does not A/C cool. I'm Sorry that I havent seen an answer on topic search. Plan to recharge with R-134. Haynes Repair Manual recommends 2 cans, with RED dye to determine for leaks. It says "quote". " Because one can of refrigerant may not be sufficient to bring the system charge up to proper level, it's a good idea to buy an additional can. " Also states "Warning:Never exceed the system's capacity when adding refrigerant." So,recharge from 14 oz. to 28 oz. How can I tell how much is enough or how much is too much ?.
  4. How can I tell which refrigerant was used ?
  5. dash lites for climate controls only visible after sufficent warm up.30 min.

  6. Wowee, I'll try my best to play catch-up. Bought mine used almost year ago. I only commute 60 miles per day with the occasional trips of 200 miles R/T. Still 30 MPG. Trunk gasket seals allow rain to settle under spare tire so I popped out rubber plugs. Lost 'em. Now water pools up in fender/side wells either side of spare tire. Thinking about punching drain hole so's water drains out. Oxidized cabin roof with hammer dents (not me). Champagne body with blue RF fender,RF door is yellow. Door panels let draft in and rubber sticks so window crank is mighty tough. Great heater, not much to look at,it starts and stops, auto shift lever rattles. What can I say ?
  7. Unit has 2 AC buttons: A/C & ECON . Both lightup and can be depressed indepently.Fan circulates un-chilled air. Might it have been charged initially with Freon ? If indeed it had been,is it possible to recharge with more earth-friendly refrigerant ? Will a mechanic be required to drain whatever amount of residual in order to re-charge with a suitable replacement ? Bottom line is,It's getting warmer here and I wanta' be chillin' and be cooo'. If you get my drift.
  8. 173560 miles so far and going...since 1987

  9. 1987 AE86 Corolla.Bought for 650. Burns a bit of oil but nothing too bad. FWD,Auto,AC don't work but trying to remedy that. Do I really need it in Seattle ? Maybe the AC will bring warmth. Warmth to all members out there!
