PaperGirl
I just bought a 2001 rav4 a few weeks ago, i either didn't notice on the test drive, or my bad luck has triggered the 5th gear pop out. well it's not popping out, but you can feel it in the shifter that it wants to, so i'm using it as a four speed for now. there seems to be a fair amount of info on this problem for older cars, but i wonder if the same applies for my 2001? specifically parts required. the kits i've seen online come with slightly different options like needle bearing size, or 39 vs 40 teeth. I'm unsure which kit to buy. i'd rather not tear into it and find i have the wrong parts. also if anyone has done this and has any tips. thanks 🙂
Toyota Owners Club
Maybe worth checking that any rubber stabilizer mounts on the engine/transmission are in good order If there is too much lateral movement on the engine/transmission when the power is applied then this can sometimes knock gears out of position. Worth checking before opening up the gearbox
