  1. I haven't tried that yet. Will try this weekend. Thanks. BTW, I read that changing engine mounts require lifting the engine....so its definitely a very big job. So I wont even think about it.
  2. I have 95 Toyota Corolla DX. The car has ~113000 miles on it. The timing belt was replaced around 60000, spark plugs and EGR valve are new. It vibrates a lot while idle, but not as soon as its in motion. Could it be bad engine mounts or something else ? If its engine mounts, then where are they located and can they be replaced without taking it to a mechanic ? Thanks in advance.
  3. My 95 Corolla has almost 104000 miles on it now. I have been using the Jiffy Lube's signature service with regular oil until now. Recently I read that for high mileage cars, synthetic oil is recommended. Is it true or just a gimmick by oil companies to sell expensive oil. If I do add synthetic engine oil, will I still have to change oil at every 3000 miles or 3 months ? What are most of the old Corolla users adding ? Your opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  4. yeah the gas mileage is great on highways. I have tuned up the car recently. Got the four head Bosch spark plugs. The rough idle eventually goes down about 3-4 minutes after the start but the vibrations are annoying during the signal stops. The steering wheel shakes a lot due to these vibrations. Besides that the car is great. Never had problems since I bought it in last August.
  5. My 95 Corolla vibrates a lot when I start it the first time in the day or start it after long interval. It also vibrates a lot at signal stops or while idling. I am guessing but not sure that problem is due to rev controller, if there is any such thing. There are no vinrations as soon as the car is in motion and runs great. Other thing is that I am geting 23-24 mpg in city but 38-39 mpg on highways. Is this normal ? It would be great if anybody can suggest something to fix this or is it normal in 95 corolla ?
  6. The light under the shift(automatic) has died. Has anybody replaced it ? I looked in the Haynes repair manual, which suggests to remove center console, but the instructions are not very good with minimal pictures and there is no order in which I should remove different plastic parts to reach the light. Can anybody provide more detailed instructions ? Thanks.
  7. Look on Ebay...you will find lot of different manufacturers and their description. I thought of Cold Air Intake for my 95 Corolla too but didnt think it was worth it. Check the earlier thread.
  8. I had an exact same starting problem with my earlier car(Nissan 240 SX), and it was fixed after I replaced the alternator. I was also baffled and the first thought was a bad starter. But the mechanic was good and concluded that the starter was fine.
  9. I purchased the fuel filter for around $25 and took it to the neighbourhood gas station. The mechanic charged me $45 as labor charge. I agreed on a flat price before he started the work. The hourly labor charges around my area are $75. He however did not use a dual crowfoot wrench. He had to remove the airfilter assembly, then the charcoal canister and then reach for the fuel filter. The top part was not much of a problem for him. Reaching the bottom part of the fuel filter from under the car was a big hassle. But he did it allright, knew what he was doing.
  10. yes..i bought a manual..but did not need it as I found the PCV valve before that. It was very easy to change and cheap too.
  11. thanks..the sensor is fine. i got the fuel filter changed professionally and even they took almost one hour to replace it inspite of all the tools they had. It was a pain in the neck for them too. Anyway, the car's idling is much smoother now and acceleration is better too. thank you all.
  12. thanks for the info..The rough idlling has actually decreased after I changed the PCV valve and the spark plugs. However, the fuel filter has never been changed. It is located at a very difficult to reach place(under air filter). According to the repair manual, the hose connected on lower part of the fuel filter can be removed from under the car. I took it to Jiffy Lube to get it replaced, but they dont replace fuel for this model of Corolla. I'll have to try it myself when i have some time on a cooler autumn day. So you may be right..the car just needs a tune up. I guess the previous owner didnt really took care of it. thanks again.
  13. Helllo, It would be great if anybody can tell me how to locate PCV valve in my 95 Toyota Corolla DX and if its easy to change it ? Thanks in advance.
  14. Hello all, I am a recent owner of 95 Corolla and I am very glad to own it. I do however feel that it lacks power when I am trying to merge into highways or accelerate after stopping. I have driven 97 Honda Civic (1.6 L) earlier and it did not have this problem. My Corolla is 1.8 L and should have been more or atleast equally powerful. Is it just my car or its true for every 90s Corolla. Also, will it help if I install a Cold Air Intake ? Will it make my car considerably louder or just a little louder ? Is it legal to Cold Air Intake in MD, USA ? Does it affect the emission tests ? Hope somebody can help me out. Thanks
