voice activation commands

I have a new 2007 Camry with the factory installed Nav system,

but I don't think this is a Camry specific issue.

We are having a communication problem.

I will ask for something that I think must be a standard voice command and Camry will tell me:

"Displaying post office icons" or something other set of icons that I am not interested in.

Camry guesses wrong a lot.

I've tried reading the manual, but find that more fustrating than useful.

Asking for help is somewhat useful, but seems to only cover a few topics.

Can someone please point me to a phrase book or dictionary.

And I guess things are context sensitive, so there must really be a series of nested menus involved.

If you hit the voice command button, you should immediately get a little pop-up menu on the screen. One of the buttons on the screen should be a "help" type button. Push that, and it'll go into a menu with all the voice commands itemized by category.

Also, please note that if you have a very strong accent, for example a New York accent or a Texas accent, you may have issues with the Navigation voice command. It seems to work best with a strong clear Midwest accent.
