When you turn on the a/c, do you hear the noise from the compressor, and the air just blows warm, or does it not make any sounds? If the compressor turns on, but the a/c blows warm, you'll most likely need to charge the system (but keep in mind that there's probably a good reason that there's no refrigerant left, like a leak somewhere....).
