You don't need hight octane unless your engine knocks or pings or if you are tubocharged or supercharged. Buying higher octane, some say, yields better gas mileage, that's debateable. I think your 4Runner has the 4.0L V6 like the '05+ Tacos so I would suspect that it needs only 87 octane.
