redman1118
How do you keep the "spreader" spring pins in the holes under the pads when putting the new pads in the caliper?
dapqam
I have done this several times. It is not difficult. When you are replacing the pads you have to use a c-clamp to completely compress the piston in the caliper (open the bleeder valve to relieve the pressure in the caliper as you compress the piston). Then you can hold the pads tight to the rotor, insert the springs, (hold the pads together with your fingers), and slide the caliper down over the pads. There is a good instructional description on this web site.

redman1118
easy enough, thanks. I put the pads into the caliper, then caliper over the rotor . I'll try it your way. Assume the pads may not completely pull back from the rotor without the spreader springs? thanks
dapqam
Yes. You need the springs so the pads don't inadvertently rub on the rotor when the brakes are released. Be sure to clean any rust from all the sliding surfaces and put a thin coating of grease on all metal surfaces (except the rotor) to keep rust from coming back.
