William
Hello from the Philippines! New member with a new Camry. I'm an American, retired over here. My car was manufactured in Thailand and the model designation is 3.5 Q, same as the XLE (?) in North America. 3.5 Litre V6, six speed manumatic transmission. It's a great car, much more fun to drive than my 07 RAV4 (4 Cylinder Automatic, the V-6 RAV is not available in this market), brilliant acceleration, competent (but not very sporty handling) and what a LOOKER in bright silver with black leather interior! Issue: Occasionally, on hard acceleration - wide open throttle - slightly sweet "engine" fumes will seep into the cabin. Not exhaust fumes, there is no smoke, and it disapates quickly. In normal to hard driving conditions, everything is fine. I've noticed the fumes once or twice while in cruise control mode, at 120 KPH, just a hint. My dealer in Manila is very supportive but, I think, perplexed. Under warranty, they have replaced the air intake assembly, fan motor, and pulled the entire dash out (ugh!) to get at the ducts. They suspected that the "flapper" on the air intake box was not closing properly. For a couple of weeks after all this work, no fumes. But now I get the fumes again, albeit quite reduced. A few givens: The AC recirc is always engaged; The condition is intermittant; It only happens when the AC is on; After a hard run, on pulling into my garage, I can smell those sweet fumes outside the car. Most of the time, there are no fumes, everything is fine. But use the full potential of that V6 and you get the fumes. Not always though, and thats the puzzle. Any input or ideas from members would be appreciated. It's the only down-side to an otherwise great car. Cheers, Bill
Leighcm
Any chance it's the stuff that comes on the brand new engines from the factory? Cosmoline or something? That should go away after a few hundred miles though.
XR2003
Perhaps a small leak from the exhaust manifold?
