Hello everyone I purchased a 2006 Highlander Limited from an authorized Toyota dealer (unfortunatelly) in Minnesota in November. I have had many problems such as O2 sensor failure since I bought it, but my last problem caused the vehicle to be stranded on the road with my family. While trying to shift the vehicle from parked (P) to drive mode (D) on Saturday, the gear shift was locked. It was not possible to pass from the parking position in any way. I fiddled with the brake pedal and the cables behind it a bit, and after 15-20 minutes, the switch suddenly occurred. I parked it right in front of my apartment and took it to a repair shop with a tow yesterday. The mechanic said that the brake pedal and position sensor needed to be replaced. The total cost is $880 (cost of part: $745), including labor costs of $135. When I told the man at the dealer that I could not pay this amount, he said that if you buy the part from Amazon or anywhere else and come back, we can replace it. When I asked the mechanic whether it was possible to replace only the position sensor, he said no, it is a part connected to the brake pedal. Is it correct? But I don't know how much I can trust it. I am a student coming to the USA with a research scholarship for 1 year and this amount is too much for me. It is one-third of my scholarship. I have to continue using the vehicle to take my child to school. I'm currently using it with the switch button next to the gear. But I have to get it done. Please help me.
