Hello everyone I purchased a 2006 Highlander Limited from an authorized Toyota dealer (unfortunatelly) in Minnesota in November. I have had many problems such as O2 sensor failure since I bought it, but my last problem caused the vehicle to be stranded on the road with my family. While trying to shift the vehicle from parked (P) to drive mode (D) on Saturday, the gear shift was locked. It was not possible to pass from the parking position in any way. I fiddled with the brake pedal and the cables behind it a bit, and after 15-20 minutes, the switch suddenly occurred. I parked it right in front of my apartment and took it to a repair shop with a tow yesterday. The mechanic said that the brake pedal and position sensor needed to be replaced. The total cost is $880 (cost of part: $745), including labor costs of $135. When I told the man at the dealer that I could not pay this amount, he said that if you buy the part from Amazon or anywhere else and come back, we can replace it. When I asked the mechanic whether it was possible to replace only the position sensor, he said no, it is a part connected to the brake pedal. Is it correct? But I don't know how much I can trust it. I am a student coming to the USA with a research scholarship for 1 year and this amount is too much for me. It is one-third of my scholarship. I have to continue using the vehicle to take my child to school. I'm currently using it with the switch button next to the gear. But I have to get it done. Please help me.

Hello: I am brand new here. Glad to find you all. I have a 2003 Solara, with 212,000 miles and it is a wonderful machine. Today I had required major suspension work done: Replacement of Four (4) struts; Replacement of Tie Rod End; Replacement of front brake pads; Front end alignment. Upon acquiring the vehicle at the end of the shop's day, I drove off. At the first traffic light, when I came to a complete stop, I felt the brake pedal very slowly 'travel' all the way to the floor. Concerned I returned to the shop. The mechanic drove it and stated he found nothing wrong with the brakes; and indicated that sometimes with new pad on "old rotors" there can be some movement, or something to that effect. I was told to bring it back tomorrow if the problems continue. Upon driving away I found that each time I came to a stop the same 'soft' pedal was apparent and with consistent foot pressure the brake pedal would slowly yield and go all the way to the floor. Concerned I decided to do a power stop to check the ABS, and I found that the ABS apparently is no longer working as there was no ABS braking sensation/vibration/effect; and the tires actually locked up and screeched on the pavement. The ABS light only came on after I turned off the engine and then moved the key to start the car; and upon the engine starting the ABS light goes out (properly). Can anyone please comment on the apparent cause(s) for these conditions? Thank you. Robin
