  1. i also have a 02 camry LE. my friend unless you are a technician, i wouldn't recomment messing with lock cylinders. there are very tiny cylinder parts that needs to come apart or it might just have to be replaced. and if it needs replacement, it has to be order by VIN number by a toyota dealer (at least that's my educational guess since i am a VW tech and that's how we do it here) as far as i know, the door trim doesn't have to come off, the handle trim has to be popped out and for that, you may not have to take the whole door trim apart. hope this helps you out. by the way i have a high mileage (160,000) camry and since i am not a Toyota tech, i don't know why my whole car want to swirve on the opposite direction when taking turns. makes me feel like i have no suspension. i checked the sway bar links and they are good. next thing should be the struts, but they seem ok as well. any suggestions??
  2. It sounds like you don't know much about cars. First of all what do you mean by <popping>? If your timing belt was broken, the engine wouldn't even start. Check your spark plug and wires if it has any. Don't worry about valves for now. You have a toyota, not a GM product. Are you a mechanic?
  3. if the window falls in you probably need a window regulator kit. its not the motor because you can hear the noise when you operate it by the switch. VWs are kinda complicated to replace don't know about toyota, never done one yet.. let's just say that if you are not a mechanic, you probably shouldn't do it lakshay
  4. ofcourse the rims cost more. u will probably be ok.. in fact when u go to a shop to buy rims they will let u know if its a good idea or not. usually they do say dont go over 3" because it may mess with the ABS system, (which it does anyways, believe me, i work on cars, i am a mechanic) your rpm readings won't be right and in snow it MAY give you some trouble.. usually they give u an adapter that fits you hub to the rim.. hope this helps. lakshay
  5. wow that is so weird, well now i know too... it really makes no sense but i guess that's the way toyota software engineers programmed it. oh well have fun with the car...
  6. you know what's the best thing to do now? TAKE IT TO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP... how does that sound. you car is under warranty, i am sure a technician would know how to do it the right way (not to say that you don't ;).... he will teach you too. if not, then they have no choice but to replace the instrument cluster...
  7. i don't know about changing atf every oil change... i mean i am mechanic i have never heard of chaning atf this often i know its black and whatever it had to damage, the damage has been done. just make sure its at the right level. and the atf shouldn't stink. take the car to a mechanic and tell him to drain the fluid and refill it with right level, drive it for 5-10 miles and drain it again and fill it with some more fresh fluid and you should be fine... do not use type iv. use dexron III.... hope this helps... u don't need to buy a gasket and drain plug, you car already has one and unless its leaking, you don't need to change it...
  8. i notice that you have the blue bulbs in the parking lights but aren't they illegal? i mean they have to stay on when u turn the headlights on? haven't u been pulled over yet?
  9. hi all, i am a mechanic but i am not certified in toyota.. when i bought my 2002 camry (used at 17,000 miles) the brake pedal would go down further before the car would slow down, i called the dealership withing few days asking if i can get that fixed and the salesman said that he bought 02 solara and he has same issue and he bought it new, so as per he says, it came from factory like that.. now at that time i was just a young punk believing what everybody said. now that i am mechanic, i have bled the brakes in every possible way including mechanically and by applying pressure of 10 even 20 psi... but still i still have a long pedal travel... i have been dealing with it for last 5-6 years and i am tired of it. my dad has 2005 camry 4 cyl and his brake pedal is real good just like any other car... is there anyone out there who has 4 cylinder 2002 camry and has had same problem? please help... if anybody knows a special way to bleed the brake system, please help me out....
  10. yeah what you do is make sure your display is reading odometer, not trip A not trip B.. keep the ignition key in the middle position where you can play our radio n stuff. then hold the knob down in the instrument cluster and while holding it down turn the key ignition into ON position.. you should see the 00000 ------ going away one by one, and that should take care of it. the main thing to remember is before even trying to reset your maint req. light you have to have odometer reading... i am a VW certified Tech and i own 3 toyota vehicles as well. hopefully this will help u.
