Immobilizer Problem

My car is a 1997 Toyota 4 Runner.

I'm about the third owner and don't have that little control device/alarm fob that activates/deactives the immobilizer.

I didn't even know the car had an immobilizer until after some serious mechanical work on the engine (new drive shaft), the mechanics can get the car started, but it cuts out after about thirty seconds!

The theory is that this anti-theft device (immobilizer) was deactivated for the two years I've had the car, but has now become activated after the major mechanical work, thus not allowing the engine to run.

All efforts (complete check of electrical system) to find a solution have been for naught.

Does anyone know how to get a replacment contol, or a schematic of the anti-theft system, or any othe solution ?

Thanks,

James
