  1. I bought a 1997 Toyota 4 Runner without the remote control that activates/deactivtes the anti-theft system (Immobilizer). This wan't a problem because the system wasn't active. However, after major engine repairs, it seems the system has become activated, i.e. the car starts but the engine cuts off after 20-30 seconds. Does anyone know of a solution, e.g. how to get a new control, a schematic of the anti-theft system, or other remedy. Thanks much, James
  2. My car is a 1997 Toyota 4 Runner. I'm about the third owner and don't have that little control device/alarm fob that activates/deactives the immobilizer. I didn't even know the car had an immobilizer until after some serious mechanical work on the engine (new drive shaft), the mechanics can get the car started, but it cuts out after about thirty seconds! The theory is that this anti-theft device (immobilizer) was deactivated for the two years I've had the car, but has now become activated after the major mechanical work, thus not allowing the engine to run. All efforts (complete check of electrical system) to find a solution have been for naught. Does anyone know how to get a replacment contol, or a schematic of the anti-theft system, or any othe solution ? Thanks, James
