import camry 1998 scan tool interface

I recently bought a 1998 camry imported to the usa from Japan, problem is code readers interfaces am getting are for usa assemled models only, my diagnostics "socket" is in the engine compartment , does this mean that its not OBD 2 compliant ? and how can i read the codes ? where can i purchase an interface for this model? help
