dmullene
Howdy all! I recently purchased a 1999 Solara SLE. The vehicle has 88,000 miles on it, and appears to generally be in good shape. I am hearing noises from the front end -- seems like both sides -- when I drive over rough pavement or expansion spots in the road. Noises sound like slight rattling of metal assemblies, like you hear in a loose suspension. Anyone have any experience with replacing struts in your Solara or Camry? How did you know it was time? Anyone experienced similar noises, and learned the cause? Thanks in advance for your help.. As for the pulling to the left on the steering.. that's another matter entirely . I hope to find some independent garage who knows how to fix that, based on the info posted here on the site! Ciao, Dan

D0UG
Most likely (95%) the strut mounts. I just replaced struts on my 99 Avalon. As it turns out, the old struts were not really very bad. Because money is scarce, I did not replace the mounts. Now, it rattles on every bump. Strut mounts are now on the wish list. My experience (21 years) has been that Toyota strut mounts are not very durable. Moog last much longer.
