98 Camry

Our Camry received a new timing belt at 90k miles but the mechanic did not do the pump or tensioner.

The car is now at 132,000 miles.

How much longer would you drive without changing the pump?

p. s. Planning to drive 2000 miles round trip on vacation in December.

Thanks!

John

Its purely a guess on anyones part.

Obviously, if you have drained and flushed the cooling system on a timely basis, and used distilled water instead of tap throughout its life, the pump will have been exposed to less corrosive enviorment than if you ignored the cooling system.

Always change the water pump when your inside the timing cover doing the timing belt...its cheaper that way.

Good luck with your decision. If you are trying to make it to next timing belt replacement before doing the water pump, its highly unlikely that will happen. To have a stress free vacation, I would opt for a new pump before the trip.
