Independent Mechanic

Last week I took my '03 Highlander (54,000 miles) in to the dealer for a minor service (oil change). When they called (I thought to tell me it was ready), I was told that I need rear brakes (at 25%), a new timing belt, drive belts, EFI &T/body service, and air filter. My response was ok, but what will this cost me? The answer, just shy of $1000.

I am a firm believer in preventive maintenance, but there has to be some good independent toyota mechanics in the Orange County, CA area that will do this work for much cheaper. I live in Newport Beach, CA. Can anyone steer me in the right direction on this?

Thanks
