MCRADS Posted September 19, 2008 Share Posted September 19, 2008 My 96 Avalon gear shifter is stuck in park. The day it happened I read in the manual that you could override by pressing screwdriver in slot on console. This worked and I drove to work. Leaving work the car started as normal and the shifter let me move into D. Later that night it would not shift or let me override. Searched the internet and did the checks that were suggested. The brake lights do come on when the brake pedal is depressed. The next I tried was checking the brake switch...which also looked to be ok. Now...can anyone explain about the shifter solenoid and can this be done without paying an arm and leg at the dealership? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
