  1. The owner's manual mentions nothing about this, other than using the remote buttons and programming them. I could not find anything on the internet either. These facts make me inclined to believe there are no batteries in the visor, and that the power source is the car battery. I could always check this by disconnecting the battery terminal and seeing if the garage door button still worked. However, that would mean having to reprogram the radio functions as well as all the main computer and clock info.....a nuisance. The buttons have always worked.....but sometimes they would seem weak.[font="Lucida Console"]
  2. I have a 2002 Avalon xls. The visor mounted garage door and gate opener seems weak at times.....could be my imagination running wild on a 10 year old car. I was wondering what the power source is.....namely car battery or replacable cell in the unit? If a replacable cell.....how would I replace it? Thanks.
  3. About two weeks ago I started having problems removing the ignition key from my 2002 Avalon. The car would shut down normally and everything would seem fine, except, I could not get the key out. Only after constant jiggling would the key release and come out. The problem has become intermittent, and has is now occurring at different degrees, with all three keys. Sometimes there is no problem at all......other times it can take 3 or 4 minutes to remove. The car is always in park, and moving the steering wheel seems to have no effect. A Toyota dealer said ignition cylinder replacement would run over $350, and would probably require carrying two keys around. The same dealer estimated a locksmith might run around $150 to repair the tumblers. Anyone have any other thoughts or suggestions? Thanks.
  4. I have a 2002 XLS with 114,000 miles on it that has had very little service thus far, other than routine oil and filter changes. I had a 30K service done ($400), and alignment, coolant flush and induction service done at around 60K.....other than that just battery and filter replacements. I know the timing belt should be replaced, and have been advised to have the water pump done then as well. My question is what other service should I be considering at this time? Last year the Toyota dealership quoted me about $900 for the timing belt/water pump package, and $3500 for the complete 90,000 mile service package.....both prices seemed excessive to me......are they? It also seemed like I would be better off just picking and choosing the services I thought I really needed, rather than the entire recommended service package. I am considering coolant and transmission drain and replace (told not to get tranny power flush), A/C filter inaddition to the TB replacement. I have not had any indication of a sludge problem thus far, but I am still leery of it. Do I need engine tune? induction service? new plugs? fuel filter? PCV valve, accessory belts? cam seals? I'd appreciate any input any of you have, including where to get the work done (dealer vs. independent shop) as well as ball park costs I should expect. Thanks.
