this car was straight from the dealer we are the only owners i never put a supercharger or turbo this is a work car for my wife.i would have to agree with you on your previous statement it was a lemon. well i received the ecu today dose not match up to the harness. i did some checking and vin number on the engine it requires the computer from a/t ecu but my tranny is a 5 spd manual. i dont know what else to do. man this really sucks i have two more weeks to get it running. what the hell do i do now.

remember when i posted wanting to know how much work was it to change the 1zzfe to a 2zzge? well i went ahead and put another 1zzfe motor in it from day one this engine never felt right to begin with. as i took out the old motor out i noticed piston rod number 3 had shot through the bottom of the oil pan. i dont know what caused it but i have not had problems with toyota till i got this 04 matrix. maybe it was just a lemon i hope. as soon as i get the other ecu ill let you know what happens. hope it works.

engine did bolt up to tranny with no problem. well i should be getting the ecu friday i hope and then i'll see what happens thanks for the help if there is anything you can think of let me know. thanks again.

i did an experiment with my wifes car she has a 2004 Toyota matrix with the same motor{1zzfe} as your corolla. i drove from Miami, Fl to Tampa, Fl and could not make it on a full tank of gas on regular unleaded than on the way back i used super unleaded i almost made it back all the way but still had to stop for gas before getting home. i than purchased a cold air intake for her car not the shorty air intake the long one that reaches behind the front bumper of the car. the next week i went back to Tampa this time on regular unleaded i made it there with a little under a quarter tank of gas left. know on the way back i used super unleaded and made it with more than a quarter tank of gas also what i did not mention is my average speed was 85 mph on the highway. i think if you invested on getting an cold air intake its worth the money and will save you gas. there not so expensive i bought mine off www.ebay.com

yea its from a 2001 corolla and its a 1zzfe motor. do you think the computer needs to be reprogrammed if i got another one or will the ecu from a 2001 corolla work? i ordered one from a 2001 corolla with matching numbers on the ecu for $35.00 i figured what the hell it would not hurt my wallet to much.thanks for the feed back.

ok, i end it up buying and replacing my engine out of the 2004 matrix. the engine i put in was out of a 2001 toyota corolla. my question is do i have to change the computer as well. the car dose not start the engine turns over has spark plenty of fuel i put a scanner on it to check all censors are ok. the reason i ask this question is because i have had three different people tell me yes i need to no i dont i need some one that knows what there talking about. thank you.

thank you for all the replies just upset at the time and pissed that i have to replace this motor. never had problems with toyota until i bought this matrix just figured it was a bad design on the motor or just a bad motor. just wanted to put the 2zz not just because of the power just because i have never heard any problems with the 2zz engine. well i am waiting to see how much a short block is for now what the hell else can i do right lol. thanks angain

From the the first time I bought the matrix for my wife in 2004 I seem to have problems with the engine. the first 50 thousand miles she put on the car it spun a bearing Toyota replaced at no charge . I always use full synthetic oil at 3000 to 3200 hundred miles even though you don't have to change every 5000 thousand with synthetic. now this Wednesday with no warning it threw the piston rod through the oil pan at 100 thousand miles. I did some research and found out there has been some problems with this engine 1ZZFE also found out that this is an American made engine WHICH I DID NOT KNOW but, i also found out that the matrix XRS comes with a 2ZZ-GE engine and is straight from Japan. This is what i would like to do, now that being said i know that the 2ZZ-GE engine fits but, is there any mods that i have to do to it besides change ECU and transmission. greatly appreciate any help thank you, Sincerely, Jon
