  1. I have a 2008 Camry LE with the standard climate control system. When I turn on recirculate, no matter what vent setting it's on, the recirculate shuts itself off after 3 minutes. I tried running the A/C, hot, cold, vent only, floor, bi-level, no matter what setting it still turns the recirc off after 3 minutes every time. It's almost like it's on a timer. What the heck is going on with it?? Any ideas?
  2. Update: I e-mailed Toyota and they responded and said that RDS is not available on that radio. What a bummer!!!!
  3. It's the AM/FM/CD with MPS and WMA capability, it's probably the standard radio on that car. I have an LE model, it's the four-cylinder with automatic transmission. The car came pretty well equipped with this LE package (power windows, locks, mirrors, power driver seat, A/C, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, CD stereo, LED instrument cluster, auto controls on steering wheel, iPod jack, etc.) Adding leather meant another $6k to the price, hardly worth it on resale. LE Camry's in the past had RDS. I don't know why they would leave it out in this new model.
  4. I've been through that radio with a fine tooth comb, it does not appear to have RDS. There is a text button, but that does nothing. According to the owner's manual, the text button is used for the optional satellite radio and MP3 CD file information during CD playback. There is no mention of RDS in the owner's manual whatsoever. I have tuned to stations that broadcast RDS signals, nothing works. I am a former radio station engineer, if I can't figure out how to use RDS on a car stereo then I have problems! :-)
  5. But upon further reading of the privacy policy, it was discovered that it says they will make our personal information available to 3rd parties not affiliated with Toyota, and it goes on to say that the personal information may include names, addresses, social security numbers, credit and employment information. Whether they actually sell this info (or give) to other companies remains to be seen, but they reserve the right to do that, and by including that particular language in the privacy policy, they have effectively notified us that they can do it; which legally protects them. That is also why they give us the option to "opt-out" of this information sharing.
  6. My wife and I just bought a new 2008 Camry. A couple weeks after the purchase we received a copy of the Toyota privacy policy which basically stated that Toyota will sell our personal information, including names, addresses, social security numbers, credit scores, phone numbers, places of employment, etc to other "interested" 3rd parties. I was shocked to see this! We financed through Toyota Financial Services and it sounds like they are the ones that sell the information to every Tom, Dick & Harry out there. They do have a way to opt-out of this, which we immediately did by calling their toll-free number. But I was just shocked that they would sell out their customers like that. Does anyone else have the same feelings about this?
  7. For the last few years, stereo manufacturers have implemented a new technology in their products called "RDS" which stands for Radio Data System. RDS allows for text information from the radio station transmitters, such as the name of the station, song title etc. to be displayed on the radio. My wife and I have had RDS in our vehicles as far back as 2002. Recently we bought our new 2008 Camry and were surprised to find out it does not have RDS. Other than the obvious answer "because they didn't want to" is there any reason in particular that Toyota does not offer an RDS-equipped stereo in the new Camry?
