  1. My rear lift-gate just stopped working, the HL is new to me (2 months) 66k on odometer. It worked for a couple weeks now it is not. Here is what it does: The Open button on the dash will only open the lift-gate about a foot and a half then there is a long error sounding tone, it only does this behaviour if the car is running otherwise the button does not do anything. The Open button on the dash will not close the lift-gate if the lift-gate is open. If i turn the car off and restart it, when the lift-gate is open 1.5 feet, the button will open it another 1.5 feet and error tone again (it will do this until the lift-gate is completely open) The FOB button does nothing, the other buttons on the FOB work as expected. The rear latch (by the toyota logo) will only unlatch the lift-gate if the car is running. The lift-gate will not open the same 1.5 feet that it opens when using the dash open button The lift-gate close button on the bottom JAM does not close the lift-gate. It will do the tones that indicate resetting the lift-gate height. No matter what position the lift-gate is in the dash graphic does not show it as open (it will register the window is open though) What I have tried: resetting the hatch open height in the menus and with the lift-gate button on the hatch Jam section (bottom of hatch that is visible on when the hatch is open) trying to reset the hatch using the glovebox on / off switch trying to reset the motors by unplugging them from power disconnecting the battery and draining the capacitators cleaning the pressure sensors on the side of the door cleaning and lubing the motors Things that may have affected this: Had a trailer brake controller installed. Installer said there was a short in a junction box near the rear spare tried to install a remote start but it came with the wrong harness, I unplugged and replugged most harnesses under the dash to make sure there was nothing that fit. All are plugged back in I have spent a lot of time researching this and just dont' know what to check. The newest information is that the car does not "sense" that the lift-gate is open when it is open (according to dashboard graphic). So what might be affecting that? Does anyone know what sensors or parts relay the "open" and "closed" status of the rear lift-gate? Any other ideas? Thanks.
