ipod Interface kit

Hello all. I am a new member and need some assistance. We have owned Toyotas in the past and currently own a 2010 Sienna XLE and a 2010 Highlander Limited 4WD. I just picked up the Highlander two weeks ago. I am interested in getting an ipod interface kit and was looking for some advice.

First of all, I see that there are a number of after market kits available for the Highlander. The interface available from Toyota looks like it is just a cable that plugs into the back of the stereo and then is run to the glove compartment where it plugs into the ipod. It seems pretty simple but, of course, I have no experience with this. I have the stereo with the six CD changer but no navigation system.

Does anyone have any advice they can offer? Are the after market kits worth considering? Is the installation of the Toyota interface fairly straight forward and simple or does it require disassembly of the dashboard? I am OK with poking around behind the dash but wouldn’t want to take anything apart that can be seen by the passengers.

I would appreciate any advice you can offer.

If you have any friends/coworkers with experience, I would ask to see if they could assist you with the Highlander. It's possible that there's a bit of drilling involved through the dash, so if you're uncomfortable, just get an estimate for installation.. see if it's worth it. Good luck!
