Valve sticking when cold, 2001 Tundra

Hi Folks, new here and all,

Anyhow, I am going to visit my dad next week and he's having a problem with his 2001 Tundra V8: It apparently makes a valve clatter sound at startup, typical of what you might expect an old american V8 that's sat for awhile. His does it every single time you start it. Oil pressure is good, and so is the temp.

I have a 96 tacoma myself, and honestly, I've noticed a few things about his engine that seems really subpar compared to mine that may be causing the problem. The biggest is that the cheap plastic PCV valve seemed to be very loose last time I visited and checked it over. I'd imagine this coul cause a lot of carbon buildup in the valve cover and perhaps the valves themselves since they aren't getting the exhaust gasses properly ventilated. Secondly, being a V8, is this normal? I told him I would'nt worry about it that much. it has only 140k on it. Honestly, the tundra doesnt seem to be toyota's best product, as mine has 180k and still hums right along with the classic SR5 4 banger. any guesses?
