amlutz24 Posted July 28, 2009 Share Posted July 28, 2009 I have a '97 Camry and the "brake light out" warning light is on. I changed the bulb and it works but the warning light is still on. Sometimes when I apply the brakes it goes off for a couple of seconds but when I let off the brakes, it comes back on. Is this a relay problem? If so, do you know which relay it is? Thanks! Hey I have a 90 Camry with the same problem; Its not a huge issue - basically there is a little yellow box in side the trunk of the car underneath the carpeting (mine on the 90' is on the left side about right above where the back left wheel is). The yellow box is the lamp failure sensor box, which indicates when there is a blown brake light and transmits to the dash - however, when the yellow box is blown out or has a short, the indicator will stay on. If you open up the side of your trunk and take out the yellow box, and end up opening the yellow box, you'll probably see that a part of the small motherboard chip is burned out. You can solder it back together for an easy fix, or buy a new box from an auto wreckers (used or new) which can cost you up to 200 or so. I just invested in a new box since my old fix came un-done - but when i had done my own fix the brake lights were brighter than ever and the light disapeared off the dash - I hope this helps!
