amlutz24
I have a 97 Camry and i just changed the pads and rotors. I noticed with each set of pads there was uneven wear between the pads. Both sides of the car. This was VERY noticeable, about 1/4 inch or more between the pads on both sets. Does anyone know what can cause this? I have been chasing a front end problem for a while now. Car pulls to the left (slightly) but has been aligned twice in the same week and my mechanic says that it is all as it should be with the alignment. He said the only thing he could think of doing was to start replacing front end parts until he figures out what it is. Don't like the sound of that! There is no abnormal wear on the tires but when I let go of the steering wheel the car drifts distinctly left??? Please help! Thanks!!! dapqam
Uneven wear on brake pads is usually due to a restricted slider due to corrosion. Since the wheel has one caliper piston the pressure is equalized by the caliper sliding. That sliding needs to be able to occur with a minimum of friction. On the alignment situation, I would say that the person doing the alignment for the 2nd time in a week should have tested the car for worn parts before charging for a second alignment. If he can not determine what is wrong, definitely go to someone else.

The car has 20000 miles and has 6 alignments, two at the toyota dealer I purchased the car from, two from an associated toyota dealer, and one from an independant shop who actually got the car very close to when the car was new. They all used excuses that it was the road conditions and that I'm hittinf obsticals and soforth. I asked then why did my 2000 camry drive up and down the same road and never needed an alignment. Actually I'm just tired of dealing with it and going to trade it in on a differant brand car.

Are you sure its not just the road camber that's giving you a false reading?
