  1. I heard of someone putting a levin bumper on the american version of the corolla will the levin bumper fit easily with the american corolla or will there be alot of modification to put it on or is it possible at all. If it does go on will the styock lights and grill still fit on the new bumper.

I've heard of people taking the entire front clip off a 101 levin, but not just the bumper.

  2. Does anyone know if the cams from a celica will fit in the head of a corolla , and if the vvti will still work the same if i switch out the cams? ;)

That depends on the engine code. Some Celi's were build with a 4a/7a class engine. If that's the case, then they would fit in the rolla. But they're the same engine, so it would be pointless.

Also, if it's a zz class engine, then you'd be better off swapping the whole engine. That is to say, swapping a 2zz-ge from the Celica GT-S with your 1zz-fe. The 2zz had alot more after market options btw.

  3. I have two Corollas. One is a 94 with a bad engine and a great body, the other is a 93 with a good engine and a badly rusted body. I want to switch engines, but the 94 is a 1.6 liter and the 93 is a 1.8 liter. Does anyone know whether this swap is easy/feasible/crazy? If it's possible, what pitfalls should I be aware of?

    Thanks...

The 93-97 US Spec rollas are basically the same. There are minor differences in the engine bay set up. The best idea is to get a Chilton or Haynes (or better yet, a toyota corolla dealer repair manual disc) and work from there. The 4a and 7a (1.6 and 1.8) are identical bothers (except the displacement and engine size) and should be a direct swap.

I would check with the main guy at www.phoenixtuning.com for more details.

  4. Ahoy Fellow TOC'rs!

I have a question. I bought a grounding kit off ebay, for my US-Spec AE102 / 4a-fe. Can anyone tell me where the grounding points are?? Pics would work great too! Thanx.

    ST

  5. But similar to put parts on my 1.6?

The 7a-fe(1.8) and the 4a-fe(1.6) are identical engines (4a family), except the 7a, is almost 200cc larger, and the stroke x bore are different. Other than that, the bolts and whatnot are in the same places. However, I would check your exhaust port sizes to the head before buying headers. But other than that, everything should fit fine. However, it may be beneficial to you to do a whole swap to the 1.8 You can find some at your local junk yards or pick -n -pulls for a decent price. And make sure you pull from a DX.

  6. Well the engine prices seem to vary. On Soko.com They are selling a blacktop for i believe $900 with tranny. On ebay, there are over 15 Blacktop's a couple with 6speeds. Now im fairly certain the 4A-GE will drop in, but the six speed tranny makes me worried. I really would love that 6speed :) I assume if it drops in all i will have to do is cut the shift plate? The 6-speeds cost roughly $1200 shipped. As far as swapping the motor. I have no experience, but this is %50 the reason I want to do the swap. I want the experience. Myself and two of my friends (one has done 2 swaps now) are all swapping our engines at the begining of the summer (not all at the same time :) ) I realize this is a huge job, and this is the reason I want to be sure I will be happy with the power. All I want is a little more to learn on , and the ability to maybe suprize some poeple who are unsuspecting :) Hey, thanks again, TTYL

Having said you have a 4a-fe, then I would suggest looking into swapping in a 7a-fe. It has almost 200cc over the 4a and roughly 15 more hp. That being said, there are more mods available for the 7a. I'm running a 4a with a header, high flow cat, high flow muffler, short ram intake, ngk denso iridium plugs, 10.2mm wires and I'm probably running 115-120 hp (optimistically) And if you are dead set on a turbo, then I suggest looking at these. sfx Performance has kits that are decent prices. You'll still have to check fitment though. Anyway, I hope this helps you out.

  7. Looks sweet, but what I really want is a new Supra Turbo!!  I've had three, and if Toyota is going to do this level of performance, why not step up to a new Supra? I don't want to have to buy a Nissan, Mazda, etc.

Can you imagine how expensive that would be? A MK4 Supra used is still over $30k Blue book.

  8. NOS (you realise thats actually a brand, you should say Nitrous Oxide, or No2) is ovverated...

Its the automotive equivalent of writing a web-page with Microsoft word - does the job but very unsofisticated and simplistic...

Fast and the furious has a lot to answer for...

    But wait.... There's more!!

Apparently Fast and the Furious 3 will be taking place in Japan WITH drifting!!!!

Yeah, it does have alot to answer for. Especially since Nitrous Express is a better product.

  9. thanks for the info..The rough idlling has actually decreased after I changed the PCV valve and the spark plugs. However, the fuel filter has never been changed. It is located at a very difficult to reach place(under air filter). According to the repair manual, the hose connected on lower part of the fuel filter can be removed from under the car. I took it to Jiffy Lube to get it replaced, but they dont replace fuel for this model of Corolla. I'll have to try it myself when i have some time on a cooler autumn day.

So you may be right..the car just needs a tune up. I guess the previous owner didnt really took care of it.

    thanks again.

I recently had to have my temp sensor replaced because it burned out. My car idled really bad because the sensor told the computer that the car was always cold. So it always gave it extra fuel. If this is the case with yours, I would have the sensor replaced, and your fuel filter changed professionally.

  10. check out "TOC UK"  for a link to turbo charge your existing 4A-FE engine with 6-8 psi boost 50-65% hp increase and comes in a complete turn key no mod kit

I'm already a member there with the same sign-in. :P

  11. Hi,

I have 94 corolla and the stop light is out on the left side. I bought the lamp but could not find out how to change it.

I opened the trunck and loosened the carpet to see whether I can replace the light from behind. I see the electrical cable and the connector. I removed the connector but looks like the hole is too small for the bulb to come out. I tried turning the cable to see whether bulb comes out that way but no luck.

Am I doing something wrong? I hope I donot have to open the light covers from outside to change the bulb as that would be bigger job.

Would appreciate any help. I changed both the headlights few months back and that was pretty simple. So hoping to do the same with the burnt out Stop light.

    Thanks in advance

On the USDM 93-97 Corollas , the tail lights just pulled straight out. However, go to your local auto store and buy a Chilton or Haynes.

  12. well, a cold air intake will give a slight increase in performance, as well as noise..

Best is to couple this with a performance exhaust system, which should give you a reasonable improvement..

My green 97 base with 3 spd auto shows a ajor difference with an intake and an exhaust. You can get headers / downpipe, highflow cat and a cat-back off ebay for reasonable prices.

  13. Latest updates include Water injection, port matched cylinder head and MoTeC M4 EMS. Now makes 198 bhp @7200 rpm - more info on my website www.ae111sr.co.uk

    Your Rolla is hot. Seriously.

Here's a question, is the MR-2 GZE more powerfull than the levin GZE? If things go well, I'm dropping an MR-2 GZE into my ae101 in place of it's 4A-FE. Any advice you ca give me?
