Unexpected Acceleration

We own a 2000 XL with 40,500 miles. Yesterday my wife was pulling into a parking space when the car unexpectedly accelerated forward & hit a snowbank causing front end damage but fortunately no injury. She has been driving 30 years without incident & doesn't know how this occurred. The obvious explanations are driver error or mechanical malfunction. Has anyone experienced a similar situation? Thank you!

Thanks for the info! Actually, I believe the ES300 & Avalon have identical powertrains. I called the corporate office yesterday & they (not surprisingly) had no applicable bulletins. I'm going to have the dealer check it out anyway.

I had this with my ES and found a split in the intake hose after the Co2 sensor and air was getting in.

I could not work it out until my mechanic picked up on it.. since it was replaced it was great

The main cause of it was the engine mounts were worn causing more wear on the inlet hose.
