Need engine for 2000 Celica GT

2000 Celica GT

Hi!

My son has a 2000 Celica GT, that he just loves. It's has an oil leak, that was easy to maintain, by checking the oil once a week. But, he forgot to add oil before a 30 minute errand in town. So, the engine siezed. Ugh.

Our mechanic quoted $3500 for a used engine. Is there any other route to go? Where does someone get a new engine? He loves this car, and is so upset with himself.

He's just joined the Air Force, and needs this car!

Thank you so much!

Susan

Hi Susan

Sorry to hear that the engine is terminal.
There are two options here:

1. replace engine and try to find an alternative one that may have come from another model (Corolla, etc)

2. rebuild the existing one but this may be quite expensive depending on what items have seized.
Generally, if the oil is run low then the top end of the engine is always usually the first point to suffer so it may only be a seized camshaft.
I think it may be wise to strip off the top of the engine and see what has occurred before committing to spending huge amounts of money on another engine
