Replacing 1998 4Runner Limited with a 2009 model

I would like to replace my 1998 4Runner with a new one in the Atlanta area. I researched the price at emnunds and kkb sites and each showed the same MSRP and dealer invoice prices. However, the salesman and GM at a dealer indicate the dealer invoice price is about $1,000 higher than these sites, indicating that the Southeast division prices are higher and showing me the dealer invoice price. This is for a vehicle that they say will be ordered for me from Japan since the color and options are not available in the SE at this time I have used edmunds and kbb in the past purchasing several vehicles in Virginia and did not have this issue. Is it true that the invoice prices are much higher in the SE US?

It is true. The Southeast Toyota division is the only independent distributorship in the mainland US, and prices and options sent to their dealers are different from the rest of the country.

Also, Edmunds and KBB will not show the TDA, which is the advertising fees that are charged to each invoice. They will mention it in the really fine print at the bottom, but they don't tell you how much. You have to realize that Edmunds and KBB are not 100% accurate, and frequently miss things.

You might want to settle for something more readily available. A special order from Japan will take a minimum of 90-120 days.
