turbomangt Posted December 31, 2008 Share Posted December 31, 2008 I handed down my 1998 Avalon with 100,000 miles to my son and just bought an 08 alalon XLS for my wife. My old one had zero issues. My wife told me she noticed when the car shifts that it sounded funny. (typical wife response) so I drove the car for a while and didn't notice anything unusual. Yesterday when I drove the car home from getting an oil change, I heard this profound sound she talked about. In all my years of driving I never experienced this. on acceleration, just before shifting into 3rd gear, the rpm's would raise quickly before dropping down for next gear. I have an appointment to take it in, but wanted some feedback from the board, as we all know what happens at dealerships. Note that no dash lights come on signaling a problem. since this is intermittent I wondered what they are going to do/say about it. any ideas? turbomangt Posted January 20, 2009 Author Share Posted January 20, 2009 they are replacing my transmission on my 08 with less than 2000 miles, they have discovered it was defective. if you own an 08 BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! turbomangt Posted January 28, 2009 Author Share Posted January 28, 2009 They are now getting reports of other 08 avalons with defective tranny's. after they replaced it I told them I wanted an extented warrenty on the power train, after a week they called me back and I got a factory extension from 5 years 60,000 miles to a 6 year 100,000miles!!!! you don;'t get if you don't ask Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
