stranger1
Does anyone own a Toyota A246E auto transmission? I have some questions about it. Thanx for every answer. -Is it a good and reliable 4-speed? -Is it an ECT-i? (electronically controlled transmission with intelligence) -Have you had problems with it? -Does it offer a good fuel economy? -Is it a smooth tranny? -Does it have "hunting" problems? -On which gears does it have the torque converter lock-up feature? -What's the difference between the A and U-series Toyota transmissions? XR2003
Overall it is a typical transmission. It does tend to run a bit hot so figure ATF fluid change or flush every 15k or 20k miles. That is the only problem I have had with it since I got it on May 31st 2002. Currently @ 95k miles. Cruise control feature will struggle when going on a slight uphill, which may be due to the lack of torque. Nothing big but still get very good fuel mileage. Torque converter lock occurs depending on revs and environment, happens from 1st to 2nd gear shift from the auto. tranny. And as for the Toyota A and U transmissions: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Toyota_transmissions
