Hi all,

On my 08 SE with out the multi-information center I can not get the "Maintenance Reqd" light to reset. I have read through the procedure in the Owners manual but this does not work.

Procedure as written on page 323:

press and hold the trip meter reset button, turn ignition to on until trip meter displays 000000.

On mine it reset the "B" trip to 0.0 but the idiot light stayed on.

thanks

yeah what you do is make sure your display is reading odometer, not trip A not trip B..

keep the ignition key in the middle position where you can play our radio n stuff. then hold the knob down in the instrument cluster and while holding it down turn the key ignition into ON position.. you should see the 00000 ------ going away one by one, and that should take care of it.

the main thing to remember is before even trying to reset your maint req. light you have to have odometer reading...

i am a VW certified Tech and i own 3 toyota vehicles as well.

hopefully this will help u.

Yes, that's definitely the right answer...make sure it's on ODO.

It's the right answer but...... it still don't work.

I have tried with the key in the accesory position and then on. No good.

I have have tried from off to on. No good

What am I doing wrong?

I have changed oil three times so it is not a dirty oil issue. Last change was around 1200 miles back.

milage at present is 9777

Oil level is fine.

Water level is fine.

No check engine idiot light.

Do I need a piece of Black electrical tape to cover this light?

Roy the confused one.

Does this idiot light monitor anything else?

Okay, let's try it step by step:

1.) Make sure the trip/odo is on "ODO".

2.) Turn the car off.

3.) Press and hold the trip reset button.

4.) Turn the ignition switch two clicks to "ignition on" while still holding the reset button.

5.) The light should turn off in about 5 seconds.

This is the procedure I have tried multiple times. Waited over a minute twice with no results.

Will the system reset if I pull a fuse or do I need to disconnect the battery?

Damn idiot lights making an even bigger idiot out of me

You definitely did the step where you turned the car off?

Yes, I tried from key off engine cold. Key in accesory to on position. Only thing I haven't tried is sledge hammer to idiot light.

Will give it another go tonight them disconnect the battery and go through resetting the radio, clock etc.

thanks for the help

Roy

you know what's the best thing to do now?

TAKE IT TO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP... how does that sound. you car is under warranty, i am sure a technician would know how to do it the right way (not to say that you don't ;)....

he will teach you too. if not, then they have no choice but to replace the instrument cluster...

Good advice but.... the closest dealer I trust is 70 miles away. I am going to try and call them now that I have some time and see what they suggest. I unfortunately would not trust my local dealer to fix a tricycle with screwing something up.

Appreciate the advice.

NOTE:

on my 08 you MUST be in Trip "A" for this procedure to work.

Sure wish this was noted in the Owners Manual.

thanks for the help
