  1. Hello everyone, ive been trying to replace my driver side outputshaft seal on my 2001 avalon a541e and cannot get the new one in from in the car. If i could remove the retainer housing it would be much easier to press it in. The problem is im afraid to take the housing off because im not sure what else will come off and i cannot afford to mess the transmission. If anyone has done this before and can let me know if its ok to take off and easy enough to put back in that would be much appreciated! thanks you
  2. I have a 2014 Toyota Avalon Hybrid. With a cold engine the engine starts up and runs choppy, or tough, as if there is a misfire. One time I got a code which said that cylinder 4 was misfiring. I have investigated possible caseus and replaced all spark plugs. Same problem. The checked the coils and the misfire code did not move to another cyliinder. And I have replaced the Camshaft sensor. Nothing fixes it. This happens with a cold engine, but it also happens at a stop light on start up, after and then the engine shuts down. Although it doesn't happen 100% it's frequency is increasing. It is close to 80% of start ups. Any suggestions?
  3. We are looking to sell our Avalon XLS, which we bought in Jan, 2000. We've been putting off doing for 10 years, it's been that good to us. It's gone 283,500 miles, and we still drive it daily. Maintenance has been routine, as recommended and it's sporting new tires purchased at 279,000 miles. Any thoughts on where to post for best interest? OBTW, It's pearl white w/ beige leather , and we are non-smokers. Thanks!
  4. I recently bought this old Avalon. Runs great, but wondering where to start with these 3 non-working features: gas gauge, dashboard lights, speedometer. Please post suggestions. Thanks.
  5. I've recently purchased a 2001 Avalon LX. I noticed that when I hit small to medium size bumps in the road I hear a clunking sound from somewhere in the rear end. I did some research and found a few posts suggesting it was the rear sway bar bushings and that it is a common problem with Toyota sedans. Could this be the case? Also I'm hearing a strange sound from the front when I hit bumps that sounds almost like a blow out valve on a turbo. A rushing air sound that lasts for barely a second. Lastly, I can't seem to find any performance or cosmetic aftermarket parts. I know several mechanical parts are interchangeable with the Lexus ES300 and the Camry but is there a good source of cosmetic products out there? Such as euro lighting, body kits, etc? Any help would be awesome. Thanks.
  6. Hey Guys, A while ago, I was trying to close my sunroof on my 02 Avalon and it would only go between halfway or until right before should close. Once it got to that position, it would reverse directions and open again. I had to push it for the end part to close it. I checked the tracks and there wasn't anything visibly obstructing the path. It could probably use a little grease but still... Any suggestions?
  7. My package tray speaker in my DD (04 Avalon XL) started crackling and when I went to find a replacement at Best Buy (cringe, I know!), the "rep" said that only the stock speakers are compatible with the stock system. He said if I wanted to take out the head unit and replace all of the speakers and amp, there's plenty I could do, but just changing one speaker with anything they had would cause the amp and head unit to not work as they should. And that's fine, I actually REALLY like the way the stock system sounds and I don't think aftermarket systems sound 'great' unless you spend an unholy amount of money on them, and it's my DD, so I don't ultimately care THAT much... However, the cheapest I could find the one speaker for was here https://parts.olathetoyota.com/86160-ac180.html for around $250 (the dealership by my house said the speaker was $350 and they'd have to order it, yeah that's okay bud). ...the only alternative I found was a kit on Amazon--- What is this repair kit? Has anyone used it? http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=86160-ac180+&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3A86160-ac180+ I'm going to order the speaker monday and just suck it up unless I can figure out an alternative...any advice is greatly appreciated :)
  8. Hi Our 2013 Avalon has had a unfortunate life the past 6 months or so. It has failed to start several times resulting having the battery jumped and replaced. Now it has been towed to the dealership service center. I have been told that it must be driven often to keep the battery in shape. We are retired and sometimes the car does not get driven for 3 - 5 days. I would think that a battery should keep it's charge for a longer time. I have been told that the new cars have so much electronic items running while the car is resting. Has anyone experienced this dilemma with newer Avalons? Thanks
  9. Test drove a new 2011 Avalon. It had floor mats. Bought a 2011 Avalon of a different color, but about the same price. When I picked my car up there were no floor mats. The salesmen said it had if different option package than what I tested. I am blown away to pay nearly $40k for a car and it not have floor mats. Is there any dealers besides Toyota that have mats fitted for an Avalon?
