  1. Hi all, I have a 2018 Toyota RAV4 that has 30,000 miles on it and will be two years old in a few months. Factory warranty expires after 36,000 miles or 3 years, I believe, whichever comes first. Is buying an extended warranty from Toyota is worth it? Family have been driving Toyota cars for a long time because of their reliability. They don't think I need to buy an extended warranty. I initially chose to buy one from the dealership where we purchased our car. Can't remember which one it was, but it cost about $2,700 at the time. I chose to cancel it a week later and shop around later once I got around to it. The dealers always like to scare you about the computer systems dying for no reason. An independent mechanic my family uses says that computer systems should be the last thing to worry about. Mechanical issues are obviously much more common. His opinion was to put the money in the bank, let it accumulate interest for a major repair in the next few years, should one arise. Buddies from work tell me that it's easy to buy a warranty from a Honda dealership out-of-state at a much better price than most dealerships. That one was in Massachusetts, I think. Are there any Toyota dealerships well known on this forum for offering a good price on extended warranties? Possible to buy one from an out-of-state dealership? Thanks all in advance for your advice
  2. Greetings from Toots in North Carolina! My wonderful 2007 Camry Hybrid died recently and was replaced by a 2019 Camry. I REALLY miss the compass feature in the review mirror. I feel it was extremely helpful when GPS wasn't available, and it made me a safer driver. Off-market versions exist (I am not the only person unhappy about this), but Toyota says that putting in a non-Toyota product will muck with the warranty. No surprise. I've asked about replacing it with an earlier Toyota mirror am awaiting a reply. Has anyone else done a replacement? Or has anyone installed any kind of app? Or a car compass (what kind?) Don't get me started on the absence of a CD player. I found a plug and play one!

  4. Has anyone had experience with fighting Extra Care when they deny a claim under the Extended Powertrain Warranty?? I was told by 2 mechanics that my water pump bearings failed and caused my drive belt to break, resulting in my engine overheating. However, Toyota Extra Care is saying it must have been my negligence regarding the engine overheat that caused any damage to any covered component. Although they have failed to state how I could have caused the engine to overheat, my presumption is they feel that the drive belt caused the whole problem. I have SEVERAL questions regarding this- including how my drive belt could have been deemed just FINE during a multi-point inspection 5 weeks prior to the incident. Also, I have been told that the Corolla/Matrix engine is infamous for premature water pump bearing failure. If anyone has experience with these things, or information on getting an ombudsman involved, I'd really appreciate the input!
